Would this work? Take 2 liter botle of Coke. Drill a hole in the cap and insert a vinyl tube making the seal water tight. Fill the bottle with water, hold upside down with the open end of the vinyl tube in your water container. The end of the tube is placed so that it is at the water level you want. When the water level drops due to evaporation the end of the tube gets air and water flows in your container to maintain the water level. This eliminates the oil and saves the cleaning. If 2 liters is not enough you could put a 5 gal water bottle used in a water cooler. You should be able to find something to last 6 months. Another alternative. You are using an oil that turns rancid. Why not something that does not go rancid like WD-40 or sewing machine oil?
@jeremypeterman3319

Thanks for this, especially the use of a different oil. I was told by the manufacturer to use the Canola oil--though it was all a learning experience as we bought the very first bird warbler they had made. I think I'll steer clear of the extra coke bottle filled with water, on the off chance that heat or other factors makes the bottle not air-tight and the water leaks out potentially getting on pipes or other electronics. Afterall, I have to go up in the chambers plenty to tinker with other things, so I can always top off the water occasionally. Thanks again!

That's quite an impressive console for such a small organ. I considered a similar one locally for my home, but decided the space was too small and reluctantly went with a digital organ for home. Fortunately, the church has a good pipe organ for performance. Best of luck finding a good home for this beautiful instrument!

I didn't get a pic in that area, nor did I look down from the chambers; I guess I tried, but the perforated panels in front blocks a lot of the view. I'm fairly confident the raised choir steps are gone. There wouldn't've been enough room between the black center cloth-wall and the organ area.

@@Skipbo000 There was a major renovation in about 2004/2005 where the perforated panels were put over the exposed pipes (organ was still being used) and the large choir loft was removed. The choir still was a regular feature, but with a moveable choir loft for purposes of flexibility, and the choir itself had become smaller. I'm not sure when the choir was no longer a regular part of the service. I thought at one point they started doing a 'traditional' service in the chapel. Not sure if that's still going or not.

This is happening all over the country, yet in England they continue to maintain, and rebuild, instruments much older than this. I’m fortunate to live in an area where several excellent organs exist, are used regularly, and are maintained properly. There are also those few magnificent instruments that have gone nearly silent.

Thanks for the informative video. After watching your video, I used this method to straighten a key on an old reed organ (pump organ). I put the tail of the key on the floor, and ran a hot iron along the side of the key as I pushed the iron down rather hard. I gave it a pretty good dose of heat for about 30 seconds to a minute....but it didn't scorch the wood. And it worked really well. I was surprised. Best Wishes!
@jeremypeterman3319
@jeremypeterman3319 2 жыл бұрын
That’s great! After all my endeavors, I just barely ended up shifting the wood’s straightness…. It wasn’t as much as I intended to do, but got the job done. I did this method after a heated debate on the Facebook Harpsichord page. I decided to document this idea, since it was the most widely agreed upon. I did scorch the wood a tad, but of course doesn’t matter back there. I’m glad it was helpful!
@IamHelenKeller
@IamHelenKeller 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremypeterman3319 Well, I think I used a little more force with the iron, than you did. I placed the tail end of the key on the floor and I held onto the front of the key and also pushed down sort of hard to "Bow" the key in the right direction as I pressed the middle of the iron onto the wood and Ran it back and forth, but I also held the iron in place sometimes to let the heat get through. I don't blame you for being more gentle with the harpsichord key. I wasn't too worried about the organ key, as it really isn't a very valuable instrument. You might try putting a piece of paper or thin cloth between the iron and the wood to protect it from scorching then you could give it a heavier dose of heat. Best Wishes!

I’ll look forward to hearing if anyone has tried that. I’ve always contemplated using a turkey baster, actually, but found the spoon worked efficiently enough for both scraping and lifting out the gunk (and I don’t have to clean a plastic spoon). I don’t think you can readily lift the instrument up and pour out the liquid, so one day, for sure, when I just want to start fresh, I’ll have to slowly suck it all out with a turkey baster.
