Thank you for sharing. I am 22 years old (2002) and have been on a similar struggle as you. I don't see myself completely distancing myself from social media because I use KZfaq primarily to learn stuff like music theory, instruments and FL Studio so I can get better at my skill. I use an extension called 'Block KZfaq Feed' which gets rid of the side bar of recommended videos as well as the home page. It doesn't distract me anymore

Really interesting Tash, very glad you found new outlets and being creative is essential in my view, in retaining our individual humanity. At your age I lived where even a landline wasn’t available and snail mail was difficult as well. So I’ve never had to face the pressures your generation has for which I’m grateful- gosh, even in my generation they got addicted to tv whereas I was outside doing stuff! Keep up the good “ play”👍😀

Seriously- are you a masochist? That show sounds horrendous! But the brief clips I’ve seen of Australian homes given a “facelift” aren’t much better. In the 90’s I would watch Kevin McLeod on Grand Designs, and loved it until the buildings got bigger and bigger…and became more a boastful expression than anything else. Are you game to tackle an Aussie show Tash?🤔 I like your mini series proposal 👍

I think the way you done it on the cheap is the best way....I've seen people sink money into the works to later find it doesn't do or have what they need the ones that put permanent fixtures in now have to spend more money modifying there vehicle paying twice...then some just hate the lifestyle 6 months or a year in, it's a lot of money if it's not the life you was expecting and selling you will never get back what you put in so someone else benefits from your loss.....Doing what you have done you can try it out if you survive 6 months or more with minimal gear your probably going to stick it out long term...in that time it gives you experience what you need and how you like your set up to be what works for you...by then you will have a much better understanding about yourself and set up only spending once on exactly what you need nothing more....at least if in the early stages if it's not the lifestyle your chasing, then you lost little when selling the van...If I can give any advice and that is don't go out broke have an emergency fund saved at least 5k and have all the insurance break down services....when shit hits the fan and believe me buying second hand vans stuff will break so have a safety net of a few thousand dollars will come in handy believe me....

Thanks! I certainly had that same mindset going into it. As an interior designer by trade you would think I'd want it to pretty but I knew functionality (at least at the beginning) is key. I was really lucky out on the road while I was travelling, I didn't have any issues. But when I got back it did break down. I have a few videos mentioning it but you were certainly right, I was lucky when I got back I actually made that emergency fund up just to spend it on the van to fix and then sell. I was so fortunate it didn't happen in another state, certainly learnt my lesson for next time 😅

@@tashsikkes I Heard that Render is ineffective program to design such videos Could you please recommend some accurate tools to edit that?
@tashsikkes
@tashsikkes 24 күн бұрын
@Lofii138 I suppose it depends on the type of video you want to create. You may be able to start with Render and create what you want but then need to export and continue editing on a different software like Premier Pro. I know I use at least 3 programs just to make a youtube video. Definitely play around with the program, it might be suitable or there may be an alternative 🤔

The stairs were beautiful. The problems you have now a day's is everyone's house is the same and what I mean by that. Is you can have a small house or a big house. But when you see these homes on KZfaq for example most of them are white walls Gray or White furniture you get what I mean. Like the clean with me videos and I just think it's not possible to live like that with kids . And I have noticed that the UK are a bit more realistic with videos like this and it's nice to see what I call a normal house with just normal everyday jobs. To me it's just not realistic to live in a showhome
@tashsikkes
@tashsikkes Ай бұрын
Very true! The other thing with this show home look is that it's devoid of your personality. It's fine to like the whites, greys and neutrals but I almost never see a family picture or a nod to something in the family that makes the space unique. You are so right about the UK, sometimes the homes are a little quirky but they roll with it and I love it. Thanks for your comment 😊
@rohanmcknight
@rohanmcknight Ай бұрын
Heritage listing is an...interesting...thing in Aus. 90% of the time the homes are not genuinely historical, but the process is used by NIMBYs to artificially restrict development and raise their own house prices. While historical buildings can be beautiful, there is a lot to be said for the Japanese YOLO approach to solve a housing crisis.

Hmm.. I’m torn! I agree they could’ve kept the staircase and made it work with their style, but I disagree with you on one point. I think practicality is of huge importance in design. If it’s true her husband has to duck to go past the stairs, and they’re in a central location where that’s going to be an everyday occurrence, I see their point. No matter how beautiful a design is, it may not be the best long term choice if is annoying or incompatible with the rhythms of everyday life. That’s just my opinion. Agreed with you on most everything else and loved seeing how you rendered the space at the end! Will be checking out more of your content :)
@tashsikkes
@tashsikkes Ай бұрын
I'm a huge advocate of practicality as well but in this case I feel it's something they could have had multiple options with. Since they were already changing the layout a bit they could have reworked the location of entryways to keep it. But you're so right, it's a rarity I ever hit my head on anything so I most certainly do not know the struggle of being 6,2 and perhaps in their case its worth it! Thanks for the comment and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Weeeeell, we have a garden that we've kept up, but gardens are pretty serious time investments. The previous owner cut everything down, except for a few trees and this one pest of a bush that grew 3 feet wider every year. We had to dig up that damn bush, which went 6 feet into the ground and spread like wildfire. We kept all of the trees, and all of the tiny trees that were coming up.... however, those tiny trees grow really damn fast too, so if we're not sure we want to keep a tree in the specific location it has grown, we need to notice it and dig it up right away, the year it shows itself - otherwise, we need some large tools. We keep our lawn a little longer for the insects and so that our kids can eat all of the berries growing here. But... year: gardens need to be cut, shaped, you need to know how to do it correctly, and were there's trees, there's insects, so you also have to be OK with nature being all around your house. A lot of people don't like nature for some reason - just space.

Thank you for making this video! I have been living in a caravan for a month in my uncles driveway after deciding to move out of an abusive and toxic rental situation. I am "homeless" and now have no fixed address because I chose to move out of that rental property. I'm no now selling my caravan to get a van and travel with my dog. The current rental market means I can only afford a house in a mining town or a share house without my dog. Living in my caravan was a temporary solution. Backpacking around Australia in a van seams to be my only option to not consider myself "homeless"
