I couldn't find a band called "Humans Win" that had a song called "Marie" after hearing the name in apple podcasts. It's not "Human's Win" it is Julia Christi Ann! hahaha Thank you for adding that to the youtube video notes.

Brilliant episode Anne. I have often felt guilty about owning yarn with nylon in it. I have now resolved to use it thanks to you. It's already been made and I purchased it. It's good quality so I'll make some nice things with it. It will of course ultimately end up in landfill whether I use it or not - so I'm going to steam ahead and knit with it. Thanks my lovely friend. 💛

Excellent. Thank you. The only yarns I have with nylon is what I knit for socks. I really appreciate certain companies going out of their way to provide other choices that superwash merino + nylon.

Anne, thank you so much for making this episode. I have also been puzzled and dismayed by influencers who create an environment where it is difficult to speak honestly about the problems with synthetic fibers. I do feel cheered by the increasing numbers of knitters who cherish nonsuperwash yarn options. Your episode is a great resource for increasing those numbers, so thanks again!

I ❤ you more with each podcast. Education informs and as a lifelong educator/librarian - if it doesn’t at some point challenge your worldview or core beliefs, you’re not really learning!

Thank you so much for all of this valuable information. I have very little acrylic yarn, I will use this up on craft projects that don’t involve anything “wearable”, and not purchase any more. I started knitting again a year ago after 30 year break. Acrylic was all I knew then, now I am all about “wooley-wool” 😊

What an informative episode! Thank you for your diligence in flushing out these hidden facts. I also learned a new word... numpty! I have never heard it before, i hope it is spelled right, and i will start using it!

I remember seeing an interview on KZfaq of the author of the book with the first reference. She says she made up the use of the word for Fair Isle knitting. I’ll let you know if I find it.

I so enjoyed this episode. It was fascinating. Was drinking my tea and knitting while listening. Reached down and picked up my copy of Elizabeth Zimmerman, Knitting , Without Tears , 1971 . She explains how to cut for arm holes, but does not use the steek word. Amazing how you can do research on the internet. I bought the book years ago. Thanks for all your hard work.🤗

Grrr - life is definitely too short for nasty and I love you tied it to your academic studies (as my librarian/teacher soul) - definitely - keep the humility and kindness in our tone and comments. Your generosity and sharing of yourself deserves better and as you mentioned on your Countdown with Jana - “Don’t YUCK on someone’s YUMM” - and I take that generally as just do NOT YUCK on someone else… // YES the Madman book and the OED history - falling down the rabbit holes are what I tell my students are the best part about research and learning. ❤

I don’t know that it was Shetland in any way, but I’ve knit The Advent scarf lace patterns and I was absolutely amazed that so many different patterns of lace exist. It’s Infiniti. I adore the Shetland pieces I see, I want to knit some. I adore these pieces. I have one book and have ordered two from uk. I will save this very informational video for future reference. I’d love a KAL. I have joined two on Ravelry groups and adore the support and having others give insights & hints along the way. All of us knitting together across the globe.

Anne - you are wonderful! Thank you for so eloquently sharing your life and knitting story, especially this most recent chapter of change. Your explanation of what to share (and what NOT to share) with others - especially in social media- makes so much sense! It’s wisdom is profound. For my own reasons I’ve not been listening in recent months and I’m so glad I turned in tonight. Cheers. PS - I’m super excited to explore Queen City Yarns!

Congrats on episode 100! I only found you a couple of months ago and have been eagerly playing past episodes in order (yes, i am a Virgo). I started the master knitting program back in the early 90s, restarted a couple more times, then abandoned it in late 90s when i went back to school at an advanced age! I have totally enjoyed your thoughts on the program when you started, but it does sound a bit tougher now.... i remember questions but not essays in Level one! Have a great break, i will be looking forward to future episodes!

Thank you, it was great to hear from Elizabeth again! Such a great topic and I hope to catch her upcoming talks. Would love to take her Mini Hap class if I can work it with the schedule. My dream goal is to someday make it to SWW to meet some of these fantastic people working to preserve Shetland knitting and traditions. I could spend the entire week just listening to local folks talking and relaying stories and never for one minute tire of it! You’ve inspired a love of Shetland in me Anne! I’ll call and remind you for your 100th! 😊

Anne, I am so grateful that you had the courage to discuss the hoarding/stash problem AND that I chose to go back and listen to episodes that I missed. I needed this message today! I too, sometimes feel that I am following my mother's behaviour sometimes, and I am happy to hear that I'm not the only one who feels conflicted about it.

This was so fascinating! Thank you so much Anne and Rosamund for taking the time to share Rosamund's wealth of knowledge with us online. Her knowledge and enthusiam are amazing. It reminded me of a week's placement I once spent in 1984 with the textile curators in Cultra, the Ulster Folk and Transport museum. Wonderful to spend time in the presence of people who truly know their subject and are generous in sharing their knowledge. I hope some day to make the trip to visit her museum. Thanks again.

A three ply yarn looking like a one ply sounds wonderful! I love the look of a one ply for its beautiful stitch definition but it pills so easily. Plying the yarn reduces pilling quite a bit.

Hello, i must disagree with you in regards to not being able to get pure Llama fiber outside of South America. In New Zealand where i live, Llama fiber, 100% is widely available for spinning and knitting with. I am knitting up pure Llama fiber as i write this. I have several Llama fleeces that i have processed myself from scratch. They are really beautiful, and the colour range is just wonderful.

Have a wonderful time on your travels! Roxanne Richardson’s KZfaq channel (month or so ago ?) had an episode also regarding ChatGPT. Quite interesting! You might like to give this a listen (when you can!) I thought it interesting, that when more in-depth info could have been added, it went directly to “…parenthetical… insert xyz here…” Perhaps pattern writing is beyond AI (for now, at least…thankfully!) because there are many styles of writing a pattern, let alone all the techniques etc. I’m muddling my words… consider late 19th century written patterns to the 1950s to current day. Much has changed for many reasons (magazine/newspaper; space parameters, chart format to written, and so on) Thanks for an interesting topic! Looking forward to hearing about your trip!
