Well done for these well captured sequences. In an online study of 1,200 captures, I established that in the Common Swift the average duration of beak opening is 0.0214 s, the average duration of beak closing is 0.0113 s. This gives an average duration of the beak opening-closing cycle of 0.0327 s.

I’ve been watching little swifts in Glasgow’s east end parks! They dive and dart around like battleships from a Star Wars movie! They seem to turn in a 45 degree angle almost instantaneously! It’s fascinating watching them! I’ll have to try and film them before they head off again!

Wow, Wow, Wow That truly could only have been Created by God - it’s incredibly unique & beautiful. Was reading from Our Daily Bread & had no idea what was being said until I decided to see what the writer was talking about. Amazing!! Sorry but I do not believe any big bang theory could bring those murmurations into existence. Dorinda K.

Wow! Been dying to know what bird it is! Noticed it late last year and first thought it was a type of frog. Believed that foe months until I noticed one dawn that the sound was emanating from the top of a long pole. Couldn't see it well and while I waited for brightness to reveal the marvel, it took off. Thanks for this!

I am thinking of using this video as Music for Reflection at my sister's funeral. She was an avid bird watcher who visited many RSPB sites and went on many nature holidays. May I have your permission?

Thanks for this video. It's helped me understand what has been visiting my birdfeed window all summer. It was small and flyffy at first but now is blackbird sized with a large red cap and red butt. A really rare sight for me. The black white patterns of the wing mixed with the red is so striking.

Hi Wendy, I recommend the Merlin app (download the right package, should be European for you). This helps immensely with birds calls. Sometimes it’s not 100% though, so be careful. I bet you have Reed Warblers too, have a listen for them on KZfaq.
