In the first episodes, the reason Homer hated Ned is because Homer was jealous of Ned, the Flanders family had a lot of luxury that the Simpsons did not have, it seemed that the Flanders were rich, even though that was because Homer didn't knew how to properly manage money. Then, Flanders went through a process of flanderization, a process where characters get exaggerated and become a parody of themselves, named after Ned Flanders, because he turned from a nice guy, to one of these people who are nice but annoying, and he became a devout christian. Then, Flanders was flanderized again, becoming a radical christian with a lot of traits of extreme conservative christians and becoming way less nice, justifying why Homer hates Ned.

ok it is now my canon that homer was a Miami vice cop given witness protection for him marge and there 2 kids when he took down ned who was a drug kingpin of maimi when ned was in prison he found god got out was given witness protection himself and just happened to be placed in the same state town street and next door to homer
