So we recently went out with these guys and chartered the whole boat with a group of our Asian Friends. There wasn't ANY fish put back that was of legal length. We limited on Walleye, Perch, And caught and kept multiple Drum and White Perch. There wasn't any empty cooler space when he got back to the dock. And Yes, I tried the "Sheep Head" And it was actually a lot better than i thought it was going to be. Now im not going to go out and target them. But we will save them in our future trips for our friends. Just gut them and frezze them, They'll do the rest

Thanks! I’m all about free bait! When in Alaska I will reach down and snag a small clump of tube worms off the side of the dock, cut them out of the tube, cut them into 3/4” pieces and put those on a #8 hook to catch the small surf perch under the dock, then I use those surf perch to jig over the bottoms out past 150 feet deep areas for halibut and rockfish. I learned how to do that from a local who had been living off the grid since the 70s (he has since had to cut back to only summer and fall in Alaska off grid due to age and ailments)….

Anywhere from Wilson, NY to Sodus Bay can be good as long as the conditions are right. Other areas further east are good too I'm sure, I just haven't fished them personally. Generally you want to look for areas where creeks are hitting the lake dumping out that nice warmer green water. I usually fish the Pt. Breeze area, but there are a lot of options.

@alldaypan
@alldaypan Ай бұрын
@@MudSharkZ That's awesome. I also happen to run a 4000 Sedona as my spinning setup, but it's the rear drag version (4000RB). It has the same capacity as the front drag version but with noticeably less max drag-7 pounds is the max drag. Do you think 7 pounds will suffice for these Lake Ontario shore salmons? I'm worried about whether I should buy a new reel because of this.
@MudSharkZ
@MudSharkZ Ай бұрын
@@alldaypan I think 7 lbs. will be OK. I guess if you get spooled you'll know you need to upgrade but I know I never have my drag set near to max. You want them to run and tire themselves out, if you horse them too much you'll just break your gear.

What I do for steering on a similar setup is use my trolling motor with the Heading Lock feature to do the steering for me while my outboard does the pushing and you can also use the trolling motor speed to slightly adjust your trolling speed too. I don't need to touch the steering wheel all day and troll straight lines without needing to watch the maps.
