bro u should make video on installing hyperland + arch from scratch in virtual machine
@delta-a176 күн бұрын
Woah, I was following along with this series and then there was a big jump. How did you get your wofi looking so cool? Also is that pywall changing your colors on the WM level as well as the browser? I heard it was deprecated actually, so good to see it still basically works. Was the keybind to update colors set in the hyprland conf? Also the transparency for your terminal looks cool, maybe that's an option in the hyprland conf too but I'll look around for it. I've got tons of questions sorry haha

Hello, I can't find my colors-alacritty.toml file in the .cache/wal directory. What do I do?
@j.lumi_8 күн бұрын
I discovered that I can let pywal follow a template under ~/.config/wal/templates but I don't have any idea how to make a template for alacritty. Do you perhaps have an alacritty template?
@sane1090x07 күн бұрын
You might wanna try using the pywal-16-colors fork. It's included .toml files for more apps compared to the original.

Ah yes, that might happen if you're using a browser other than Firefox and haven't configured the install of the extension correctly. Most probably it's an issue with your pywal install.

cool video, I started on fedora like 8 month ago on my main laptop but didn't really got into linux that much because I was used to windows, and 5 days ago, because of microsoft horrible decision with windows and also because open source is cool, I started to learn nixos to in the future switch to it before the end of support of windows 10 on my main rig. but yea linux is cool and underrated in my opinion.
@sane1090x08 күн бұрын
Yep, it definitely is underrated. If Adobe could port their apps to Linux as well, so many more people would switch over in the blink of an eye.

Yeah, that's a major issue. You can customize the scale in Plasma as well, but I haven't checked out how effective it is at mitigating such problems.

Great video, straight to the point and easy to understand! I didn't really need it, but I always find it interesting to at least skip through videos like these. I would however like to see a bit more of a structured approach, perhaps with chapters, but as said, the video is already not bad. One problem though is that it's Hyprland (I used to love it). Hyprland in itself is not a problem, but the lead developer behind it is unfortunately, and I believe everyone should be aware of that. This has been covered plenty atimes, and unfortunately I believe I cannot link to anything, so I won't. There is a reason Hyprland was removed from FreeDesktop. If you want to have a look at it for yourself, a simple KZfaq search for "Hyprland situation" or "Vaxry situation" should suffice.

Hey, I had an old laptop on windows 8.1 Swithed to Ubuntu for less than a year now, but I'm thinking of switching again for something lighter on resources. (Laptop is old, again) Im still considered a newbie, but I dabbled in enough configs to know how to eventually find my way around. Do you have any distro recommendations that are light weight and not obscure? I thought of NixOS but im not too sure. When I was watching this video, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask
@Shine006423 күн бұрын
Considering you're a newbie, as you said yourself, I would not recommend going with NixOS unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, NixOS is a great distro (minus the horrendous language that is Nix (not to be confused with Nix the package manager, or NixOS the operating system)), but it is anything but beginner friendly. There are many distros you could go for, and it really just depends on what you want. The criteria you mentioned don't really fit Arch, and I don't think you should go for it, but it is not as obscure as you might think it is. EndeavourOS in my opinion is a very good starting point for getting into Arch and Arch-based distros, allowing you a lot of customization, while staying user friendly, and allowing you to dabble with an Arch based system. Another option is Manjaro, but beware that there is some drama surrounding it, but it was my personal entry point to Arch, and I did quite like it a couple years back, before the drama.
@sane1090x023 күн бұрын
Arch Linux definitely does the trick. It's fast, lightweight and only contains whatever programs you choose; zero bloat. However if Arch is a little too complicated, you can try EndeavourOS. It's basically Arch with different branding and a lot more help is provided, both during the install and after.
@paultapping951015 күн бұрын
+1 for endeavour. Super friendly but with the lightweight power of arch. Pacman is my favourite package manager too. Failing that there's always a REALLY lightweight distro, like #!, puppy, or alpine.
@j.lumi_25 күн бұрын
Hello, you make your videos so easy to understand. I hope you continue this series. And I wish you would also include how to setup a bare hyprland install, with the ability to adjust setting such as brightness, audio output and input, mouse, keyboard and trackpad setting graphically or through the terminal, as well as other essentials to have a useable hyprland setup like an image viewer video player, etc. I am also a beginner and I really like the idea of tiling window managers, but having it configured the way I want is very difficult.
