I like Remakes of FFVII, but i still hope that someday, Square would wanted to milk it more and they would create True Remake, and all fans, normies will be pleased and Square as well. They could do that, cuz it's VII

The Gold Standard for remakes will always be The first Resident Evil remake for me. Created not because of a cash grab and or/creative bankrupt motive rooted in today's nostalgia industry, but because in the span of 6 years the hardware advanced so much that a game made with so much compromises of the early 3D hardware of PS1 could be remade to be movie-like with deeper mechanics, the entire content of the original game, and new content added at the right spots in the history. The same director created the game he wanted originally, which made it possible to respect and improve the original's vision, artstyle and overall vibe while not being a carbon copy. The remakes of today are money hungry reimaginings or quasi carbon copies (because muh censorship for modern audiences are the only differences). The industry completly lost its "sauce" and muddied the concept of Remake, perfectly executed by Capcom in 2002, to be basically the same thing in the movie industry. A cashgrab directed at people with low attention spans and with no respect to the original or interesting and substantial new ideas.

after finishing ff7r, i stoped buying squaresoft games. the story changes are some modern multiverse bs. dont think they are capable on writing good storys. just some nice nostalgia graphics and boring filler sidequests. as far as i know it got only worse in rebirth. good for people who liked it. i think they have no taste.

One of my favourite games of all time (Dead rising, which is made by capcom) recently got announced that it’ll be getting a “deluxe remaster” and it had me thinking about what makes a good remake as it it’s being labeled as a remaster? But it clearly feels like a remake and I came across this video. It was a good watch

Living in germany I actually had the Daddy Nier Version and thought for a looooong while I played the one and only version. Was great, though. Except for the throphy material grinding. Never play the Replicant version. Was it really that different? Just thought you play Bro instead of daddy.

Frankly the idea of remakes for any creative endeavour is, to put it crudely, creatively bankrupt. Don't get me wrong I have thoroughly enjoyed many remakes like Resident Evil 2 but outside of accessibility I struggle to see the creative value of remakes OVER making something new. (I obviously see the monetary value though) But even when it comes to the standpoint of technical limitations, that argument doesn't really hold up as for one the final work is a product of its time and limitations, it's a part of its identity and you will never be able to please every original fan for any remake. Almost every developer was not even considering certain technologies of today to implement in their work in the past. For example it's not a technical limitation for OG FF7 to not have voice acting, that wasn't even a consideration. You really don't see this almost disrespect to the history of a medium outside of videogames. No ones telling anyone to wait for a remake for a film, book or anime they'll just tell you to experience it now. I loved playing FF7 Rebirth and it's currently my GOTY but I can't help but lament that this could of just been a new game instead.

Yeah okay but OoT is different from FFVII in that the reason it's still praised today isn't just its impact on its own series, genre and industry as a whole, but also that most of its game design still holds up just fine. Like you said, FFVII hasn't aged as gracefully. I think an OoT remake would have to be an epic, huge reimagining to an extent, but also retain far more of the original experience than what you're proposing. For example, stuff like the tiny, empty Hyrule Field or the lackluster side content would be expanded upon, but things that still work and are endlessly praised, like the dungeon design, would best be left largely untouched.
@jaretco6423
@jaretco6423 2 күн бұрын
The thing is that OoT is A Link to the Past in 3D. It follows the same structure, layout and story that the SNES one did 6 years before. And honestly, I think Link to the Past did it better because it not only was new for that, but it was more fast paste, has many variety through every level themes, has better overworld & dungeon design, inventories, pacing, etc. Whereas OoT felt too big & empty, slow pacing, the dungeons can be hit & miss ( especially with the infamous Water Temple ), pushover bosses, most of there inventory are useless & the story is at best passable, but the characters are blank & not all that intriguing. The only thing OoT was new when jumped into 3D is adding Z target for combat and adding two more slots for your inventory. That's it.

My favorite type of remakes basically use the framework of the original but overhaul *everything* to the point that it’s a completely different experience. I think Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 achieved this so damn well because they had at least 20 years of innovation in game design and graphics technology to plug into it. So many remakes now feel unnecessary because the gulf between it and the original is so small that it’s barely distinguishable at a glance - Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus being apt examples; it’s just the same game again but prettier, which isn’t worth the asking price if you ask me.

I'm surprised that you didn't bring up the DS remakes of Final Fantasy III and IV when talking about the other FF games. While the pixel remaster equivalents are better known and offer smoother gameplay experiences, I enjoyed those versions of the games for their minor but meaningful story additions and their more dynamic presentation. In fact, I think the DS remake of IV is my preferred version - the inclusion of voice acting and having different battle mechanics make it a distinctly different experience from the og, PSP or PR versions of IV, but playing it still feels like you're playing FFIV. After being let down with several of the changes that VII R (mostly on the Rebirth side of things) offered, I hope that the long rumored IX remake is more like IV. That's not to say that drastic remakes are a bad thing, however. I mean, *technically* the version of FF XIV that everyone is playing and adores right now is a remake, an entire structural overhaul of a game that isn't legitimately available anymore, and one that turned the most unpopular entry in the mainline series to one of the most beloved

Using the pokemon remakes as a segue is genuinely fascinating. With each of the older entries it really felt like the games were being brought up to the modern standard. And then when BDSP shows up they just lost that plot. It's a prime example of throwing a game out against it's contemporaries completely unprepared. A set of games I think really shows how these reimaginging/translations/remake whatever you call it across the whole spectrum is the Harvest Moon Back to Nature/ Friends of Mineral Town connection. One is effectively a 2D remake of the other and yet it's that one that got the 3D switch port. Mind that's with a pair of ports/ alternate versions in the middle.

For a long time, I considered Ys: The Oath in Felghana as the gold standard for remakes. It turned one of the worst games in the franchise into one that could contend (still) as the best in the franchise. Here's hoping Ys V gets the same love at some point.

Absolutely no, Re2? Amazing, Re4 even better, FF7? Butchered story milked into 3 parts with bloat shit, in which way it can stay on par with Resident Evil remakes? FF7 remake has some good which I appreciate and cuz of that it has Great potential of being remade properly, but today's remake project? Is mostly filled with bloat

The Crash Trilogy is one of the best remakes I've seen and played. It felt SO GOOD!..and it looked good too. FF7R is a failure and also a slap in the face towards the classic FF7 fans and FF9 is the best PS1 FF game. FF10 is the best Final Fantasy game overall, but that's just my opinion. Also also, FF7R is using the same combat mechanic as Panzer Dragoon Saga. I thought for that reason I'd love it, but after seeing those whispers representing the older FF7 fans in a disrespectful way, yea, I wasn't interested....well there's also the whole FFXV/DLC/"we want to wrong our rights" thing they lied about, just giving half assed DLC and not really fixing the issue at all, but I digress. Good video, overall.

I don't mind changing the game drastically, but in FF7R's case I feel all the major story changes they do are just straight-up worse (like Sephiroth in Remake is just so much more lame, Tifa went from making questionable choices to just being a bad friend to Cloud), especially with Rebirth where there's no time to breathe and it's just on to the next setpiece, all of the dramatic moments are completely undermined. Still gonna pre-order the third one tho.

I really disagree with you that Super Mario RPG is a good remake, while I will fully agree everything other than the visuals is an upgrade, the new graphics are so so boring! You said the old one is a bit smelly, and I agree, but I’d rather a game smelly with personality than the boring and generic plastic 3D in the remake. If they had of been faithful like the FF pixel remakes, or gone for a more striking art style like Star Ocean SSR, that would of been way more impressive, instead I’ll happily replay the SNES version every time as I’ll be looking at those smelly and fun graphics

I'll always stand by Majora's Mask 3D being superior in many fronts. The annoyances of Zora swimming is drowned out by the massive improvements like with the save system, Bomber's Notebook and Song of Double Time. The main appeal of the game are the side quests and this version just makes it much more enjoyable to complete them.
