🖼👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🫡 I learn oil painting. But I'm also interested in other oils. I also draw acrylic and maca. But the watercolors are so beautiful.

Nice painting. Nice instruction, and very nice fingernails! A comment on the flower pots... I'm not complaining about the instruction, everything you say about painting and technique is helpful and valuable, but about the flower pots themselves ultimately -- it's not that one is good and the other bad... there's a real proper use for both -- Absolutely as stand alone subjects the one on the right is better/more developed. But in a larger painting that pot on the left might be perfectly rendered for it's subordinate place in a compostion, not drawing too much attention to itself, whereas the very busy energy that the pot on the right has would be distracting 'overdeveloped' and out of place. Sometimes you want a building rendered down to the last nail... sometimes just the silhouette is right... and of course everything in between.

Black-and-white is good, but an actual value study is even better. There are apps for value studies, e.g., "See Value." It offers the option for a 3- or 4-value study.

This is great! It would be helpful to have a part two where maybe the lights and darks aren’t so intricately interwoven. It just seems so complicated.
@kristinvanleuven20 сағат бұрын
You know, I agree 😅 I was thinking this morning that maybe a negative space painting was too complicated. I’ll try to do some simpler subjects on KZfaq shorts this week

the biggest mistake is ... not moving quickly. I do the one on the right but always, always regret not moving quickly because when the paper is dry already, the hard outlines are made.
@kristinvanleuven20 сағат бұрын
Yes so tricky! I think that gradually becomes more natural over time, but having rough cotton paper really helps a lot too

I stopped using Arches because of the bad smell when wet. There is a coat of gelatin on it which retards drying which you may or may not like. It’s also way too expensive.

I'd love to know what paints you used to mix your green and your brown. Also, where does turquoise come in?

Hi! I mostly use hookers green and mix it with cad yellow for light golden hues and indigo for the cooler shadows

How can it be a mistake? It is interpretation.
@kristinvanleuven19 сағат бұрын
Mistakes and interpretations are different. If I’m trying to paint the one on the right then the one on the left has a few mistakes that can be fixed with color value. If I know the “rules” but I want to break them and paint one like the left painting then that’s great! I see no problem with the left except that most people are trying to achieve something else because the left does not have any light
