I live in Keizer, Oregon, and was stunned to see a coyote had entered my fenced yard at 2:30 in the afternoon and tried to take one of my two elderly cats that were asleep in their porch beds. I immediately ran outside with a broom and began smacking the coyote on the back, but it had already grabbed one of them by the throat and was shaking it. When I screamed, it dropped poor Lillie before running away, but I did chase it with intent to engage it. I realize now I am fortunate the coyote ran away, but had I arrived a second later, it would have taken Lillie with it and I would never have seen her again. Barely clinging to life as I then rushed her to emergency, Lillie died on the way. I am devastated that this tragedy occurred, but have since built a coyote-proof catio for my other animal and made an effort to make my neighbors aware of the danger. Especially the woman next door with two small toddlers who play in their yard. Worse still, we are near an elementary school. I also was interviewed by our local newspaper, who plans to print an article about this tragedy and others that have increased in number. A neighbor one mile away had a cat stolen from their porch and another neighbor witnessed two coyotes playing tug-of-war with its body. At the recommendation of a wildlife officer I spoke with, I now use pepper spray when working in my yard.

Great info! I live in the mountains in East Tennessee and there are 2 dens of coyotes on each side of the holler. They come in my yard here and bother nothing. There's a Basset hound who lives on the other side of the woods and it along with several other hunting dogs chases a coyote away from here.

At my job there’s a group of coyotes that I’ve seen occasionally at night. Tonight I was walking in the evening and they made a sound like hyenas. I started reading that they might have babies in February and are very territorial. Since I don’t have any experience with them I thought it be a good idea to take my ass inside and just start my walks earlier when the sun is up

I've encountered hundreds of coyotes. Normally, I just say, "get," and they skitter off. If they didn't, pop pop, problem solved. Now I've got a pelt.

They are NOT leaving their wilderness areas for our urban areas. We have turned their wilderness into urban. They are just trying to survive in the world we turned their world into. The coyote, bears, deer, raccoons, possums, geese, and other animals are not the pests. We are.

Dude it’s not an Olympic competition, nor is it a gladiator fighting field. It’s a simple evaluation of, if the candidates can make it to carry out the required duties of a police officer such as pulling a body out of a burning vehicle, re-racking their firearm in a timely manner, chasing the bad guy, etc. The rest will be taught in academic training. You can forgive them for not being the angry sick guys who don’t want to make candidates throw up blood.

Dude this isn’t an Olympic competition nor is it a gladiator battle field. It’s a simple evolution to recognize the capable candidates in being able to carry out their law enforcement tasks. Such as carrying a body out of a burning vehicle, holding down a bad guy, re-racking the firearm in a timely manner, chasing the suspect through the street etc. they for sure raise their quality of performance throughout their academic trainings. you can now please forgive the evaluators for not making the candidates run to bleed beyond their required skills.

I live in the mountains of VA. We are surrounded by coyotes & bears here. I have walked out of my house several times and spotted coyotes & bears within 50 feet of me. Yes a carry a firearm on me at all times. Nothing at all against hazing but I can tell you first hand that not all coyotes or bears will get spooked & run off!!!

I have an older dog , she's a baby doll , 128 pounds in her prime , but now about 95 pounds . I was walking her several months ago , and we ( well just me ) spoted a coyote , about 300 feet away . At first I thought it was amazing to have seen it . A lucky opportunity . I see foxes all the time at work ( I work outside ) As we countinued are walk ( at a super slow pace ) I realized it keept getting closer . And at first I thought it was really cool , no big deal ? Then it was directly across the street from us , eyeing up " My Baby Doll " . My first instinct was to walk over and Kill that Plankin little shit . But then I realized , I could , with very little effert . And that thier was very little chance of it actually , killing my dog in front of me . So while I was still really upset . I didn't want to hurt or kill it for no reason . So I just yelled at it . But it still followed . So I stumped my foot , and yelled at it . This time , it moved away , but kept following us . So I got pissed , and turned around , walked toward it , and did the same thing . That worked . I've never seen it again . I'm glad that thier was no useless violence but if one of them ever comes to my back yard , they will immediately learn to fear humans .even if I only have my bare hands .they eat pets they eat " Baby Dolls " they are not eating mine !

Street thugs. 2 of these sick bastards tried to take my pay as part of civil forfeiture. I had it in cash as I was going to Kingsberg for the California State Championships for American Trap. I think it had something to do with their guys losing to me at Prado Olympic Shooting park. They were fielding a trap team at the time.

When you're doing the hazing also coordinate your voice with your movement of your arms to make yourself look bigger. Kind of throw your arm up just one time and make sure you growl really loud or something or just sound like a beastly bear or something like that. Act like you're trying to frighten someone that you have walked up behind or something like that and you wanna scare the living daylights out of them... throw your arms up and then at the same time ROAR loudly while keeping your arms spread out and upwards you don't have to pump them up and down so often. And at the same time that you're doing all that, fake charge at them. Also kind of show your teeth when you're roaring
