I am heading down to Palmira outside of Cali. I have good friends there and looking to open up a bbq joint with one of my friends. I will still be able to have US income, but I want out of the USA. It's becoming unlivable and I just love the music, food and culture. The people are very outgoing and I have been down twice to Cali, Palmira and Medellin and I have had zero problems. That said, you have to be aware of your surroundings. Be smart and firm.

Lived there 3 months, if you are going there middle aged as a single man, it’ll be tough. There are different rules for the gringo at so many levels. Assimilation will be challenging, even with knowing Spanish and take many precautions. You will be blamed if anything is done in malice towards you by a Colombian. Why? Well, you gave opportunity, trust, or you decided to come to Colombia… that’s the mindset guys. In comparison to Mexico City, Buenos Aires, and Rio De Janeiro the people’s manners and etiquette is savage AF. I wanted to close line a moto f head many of times whizzing around the corner . I spent extensive months in all these countries, I got a good comparison. Medellin and the relationship with the gringo is bleak and they all know why you are here, you see it in their faces everyday. Do what you wish.

@nmarsh367 күн бұрын
@senorbobbylong9788...I get your point. The question was: "What are some of the Cons of living here" and his second issue with living in Colombia is: "if you ever go into an immigration line when you are arriving to Medellin, its these passport bros, I mean the amount of men that are entering compared to women and its a certain type of demographic of men enteringing from the United States on a Spirit flight that are coming into Colombia maybe for the wrong purposes". Seems like he was on the same Spirit flight entering Colombia. So, he is offended that people who do not look like him (he said passport bros) is in the immigration line and they are all men, and maybe going to Colombia for the wrong purposes. The irony is that a man from the United States who lives in Colombia and who has admitted to being what others may considered a different demographic is discriminating against a different demographic...my mind is blown. WOW!!
@curmudgeoncapitalist7 күн бұрын
I don't even know where to begin... First, I guess let me say I didn't know that "passport bros" was a demographic. But I understood exactly what the (interviewed Alex) was saying about standing in the immigration line. True not all passport bros are coming here for nefarious reasons but they do come with an inordinate amount of North American swagger. And they do stick out like a sore thumb. I'm too damn old to go out late at night partying anymore so I don't have to worry about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I digress... I have a Colombiana girlfriend and she lets me know when I look "too gringo" when we go out. 😮 Entonces entiendo exactamente lo que Alex estaba diciendo acerca de que Passport Bros era una de sus estafas para Medellín. Además, recuerden, muchachos, que es su opinión. Él tiene derecho a tener su opinión. Yeah, I mean a little hard on Google translate 😊

Many Americans are looking for a place that respects freedom and your personal life. Many are tired of being harassed by police or a government that hates immigrants and is taking our rights and freedoms away every day. The politics in the United States has gotten very ugly. How much is the government of Columbia and police in your life?
@MedellinBuzz7 күн бұрын
This is the first time I think about that in 14 years here. I'd say, since I own businesses, and have to declare taxes, the government is in my life at least once a year. As for police, in all these years I've been stopped 3 times for a random ID check on the street. In the US, getting pulled over while Latino was a normal occurrence, lol.
