Yeah, Over the Hills.... is fantastic, but this one just gets me. It is so sad, so heartfelt, and shows the sadness of common people getting caught up in horrible things. War is such a waste, but what is one to do in the face of aggression and invasion of the heartland? AND you can just feel it; bad times are coming again.

I love the singing of John Tams, as Major Richard Sharpe takes his leave of the beautiful Cecile Paoli . The lucky bastard gets to love the best of Spanish and French womanhood.

I really love it, Major Richard Sharpe, tells Captain Fredrickson about “ luck “ he, was lucky to have such beautiful women who he falls in love with. Theresa Moreno, and Later Madam Lucille Lassan, both the very epitome of of Spanish and French Womenhood . The lucky bastard!!!! I fell for both of them. Ah unrequited love, the story of my life.

A lovely, caring story amidst the dreadful Napoleonic War which thankfully we helped stop. Wonderfully sung.

I painted my parents granny flat to this entire soundtrack...I can still smell the brick and paint...and somehow that makes it more authentic to me. Yeah i guess I'm weird.

The British didn't take a French eagle at the Battle of Talavera. I'm assuming this song is about Sharpe.

Of course it is. Bernard Cornwall acknowledges that the first eagle wasn't taken at Talavera, apologises to the ghost of the man who took it, and pleads artistic license.
