So, I guess maybe the best way to put it is like this. The same way how a book, movie, video, anything else really needs to have a hook in it to keep you engaged near the beginning. Songs need to have that too. If I can't find any interest in the particular song, then no matter how it sounds, I'm not gonna enjoy it. This is also just a matter of opinion though, so don't really take any of my criticisms as law, I am just an average guy saying what I feel about music.
