After resisting full suspension for over 25 years, I finally gave in. The decision was overwhelming. Almost settled for a gorgeous candy red Cannondale Habit, but when I finally decided to pull the trigger Sun and Ski Sports had just sold the last one. Bummed, I looked around at what other bikes they had when I saw the Rocky Mountain Instinct 10, in blue/brown, marked from $2800 to $1700. Having it now for only six months, I've upgraded the rear suspension to a super Deluxe Ultimate, brakes to Sram Codes, and front suspension to MRP Ribbon (160mm). I haven't fully put it through it's paces as extreme heat and humidity in South Texas limits my time outside, but I can feel this bike is ready to throw down. And since this is 1st FS, I can't tell you if this is a good call, but I love my bike. Do you have a recommendations for rim upgrades for a heavy rider? I like the Trail Boss tires. Will likely leave the rear at 2.4 but upgrade the front to 2.6.

sorry to comment multiple times but one thing I noticed when you installed the new stem and bars is you need to cut your steerer tube shorter or add a 3mm spacer underneath the stem. The preload/steerer bolt isn't pulling on anything, it's supposed be to resting on either the top of your stem or the top of a spacer and as you tighten the bolt it should pull everything together in front.

Dont be sorry haha. I actually fixed that during the install, but it wasn't recorded.

the LUTU air fork is actually pretty decent. I bought one about 4yrs ago and used it for a good 2 1/2 yrs before switching it out with a RS Recon RL which recently got switched out to a RS Domain RS. One thing that did give me a problem on Lutu fork was the brake caliber post mounts. On the first fork I got one of the post mounts was not cut flush (it was a bit rounded) so no matter what i did I couldn't get my brake caliper to sit right. I ended up returning the fork to Amazon and getting a replacement. On the second fork both post mount threads ended up getting stripped out towards the top of the hole, no matter how tight I went with the bolts it would just spin. This is most likely my fault for over tightening the bolts but then again it seems like the aluminum used for the lowers is too soft. I haven't had that problem on my RS Recon or my RS Domain. One other issue I had is it seemed like the lower legs of the fork overtime have bent in, it is really hard to get a wheel onto the fork even with the QR axle removed. I stopped using the LUTU fork a while ago and was only using it for my beater winter bike but now that i got the RS Domain fork I think I'll be using the RS Recon on my winter bike and getting rid of the LUTU fork.

Great info! Confirming that the AS2 Pro will seat MTB, road, and gravel tires? I realize this review is for the AS2 Pro Max, but you mention the AS2 Pro multiple times (as a comparison) in your review. Thanks!

I love riding single speed! I find my ride times are always a lot faster on the SS than my geared bikes, pedal way less, coast a lot more, can climb things my brain tells me I can’t climb lol, keeps way more momentum, feel very connected to the bike, and have a lot more fun on it. But I don’t like riding it more than about 10 miles with no more than about a 1500 foot climb in those 10 miles

How easy is it to get the bottle back into the pack while on the move? Do you have to stop? I am looking at it for hiking but I don't like to stop walking to get a drink. I have my dog with me and she doesn't want me slowing down either. A related question, can you squeeze the bite valve with your fingers, squeeze the pack, and squirt water? Gross to some, I know, but I usually give water to my dog by squeezing a bottle and so squirting the water into her mouth. I would like to be able to use the bladder to give my dog water since she doesn't care if the water is hot or cold, and then use insulated bottles for my own hydration. Thanks!

I noticed 1 of the bolts had a torx head while the rest had hex. I've been doing a lot of changes to get a good fit on a bike and I'm worried about rounding out the heads on the hardware. Do you prefer torx over hex? Are the aluminum more prone or more resistant to rounding out the heads?

I got the Pro and Max. I use the Max to top off tires before each ride and for around the house. I keep the Pro in my saddlebag. It’s a win-win for me.

Dod anyone use this on travel trailer? The difference in the weight between this one and competitors may suggest that the steel is thinner.

I did the same for my 2021 Giant Talon 3. I got the bike brand new at 500 dollars pandemic price then upgraded pretty much 95% of the components to costing me 1,200 dollars. Looking at Polygon full suspension now at 1,299 man I wish I could turn back time instead of spending 1,700 dollars on a hard tail but this is my dream bike and I love every inch of it.

Building the same bike currently. Does the 2.5 rear tire have plenty of clearance? I wondered if a 2.6 would fit.

I've been looking at a hardtail for 2 years. I've considered a million different ones. I think I just want to build a bike. I'm heavily considering this because all of the frames I like only come in shit colors for frameset only or aren't available in my size. I'm 6'2 and 265. I think I'm gonna grab one of these in xl.

I really enjoy riding single speed. I feel it makes me a stronger rider. That being said, it does take a little experimentation to find the best (for you) gearing on each trail. The good news is you can always switch it back to a geared bike.
@TheMediocreMountainBiker
@TheMediocreMountainBiker 24 күн бұрын
The singlespeed really shines where there is a lot of ups/downs, but mostly punchy ups. It’s great for sustained climbs too but you have to have the gearing right. I only really use my singlespeed on my home trails or out-of-town trails that I am very familiar with (Brown County). The gearing is such that I can barely make the longest steepest climb at home. The most useful tip I can give is that you have to pedal like mad before you even start ascending a climb to extend your momentum and minimize the need for high torque/low cadence pedaling.
