instant sub. great video. i have a question, i play hardcore music but damn i am having trouble nailing a tone down and i see that youre using stl as well. im using STL tone hub, taylor young's preset. i was thinking if you can help model an amp using that to sound like King Nine or Crush Your Soul or Gods Hate. 3 bands i recommend you checking out! I cant seem to nail that clean heavy sound. almost all the time, its too fizzy at the top and just too much. any help would be appreciated!

Hey dude, So first bit of advice I would say is to avoid presets Unless you know how to teak them. You're better off making a tone from scratch starting from the beginning. Like your DI into your audio interface, make sure you aren't clipping. Make sure if you have active pickups in the guitar that the battery is fresh. If you want a tone like a certain band. research what Amps they use, and make sure you're using an amp sim that is simulating that specific amp. Also, Cab impulse responses for the speaker. Find a cab impulse response that is taken from the same Cab and microphone blend. Then Id just say, use less gain on the actual amp and focus more on an overdrive pedal boosting the DI into the amp. :)

what pickups are you using in your ibanez? ive got some EMG Actives but can quite get a good clean tone to work with VA's
@distortedviewsband
@distortedviewsband 4 ай бұрын
Hey man, The pickups in my Ibanez are EMG 60 active ceramic humbuckers. I use the bridge pickup and always make sure my battery is fresh. They come in pretty hot, so I make sure Im not clipping that will ruin your tone. You can also use an EQ before the amp block and bost the high end to help brighten them up as well :)

Seriously? FL Studio? Each vst you use is more expensive than the DAW.... If you're not making synth or dance music, at least get Reaper.
@distortedviewsband
@distortedviewsband 4 ай бұрын
I never understand comments like this. I can side chain in fl, I can route busses. I can do sends and returns. I can use 3rd party plugins / vsts. I can Automate anything. I can do everything any DAW can do. It really doesn't matter what DAW you use? If you like reaper then awesome man. Good for you lol.

@@distortedviewsband Idk. I'm sure FL can do it all. And of course use what you like. I just put FL in the sequencer category.

@@distortedviewsbandAbsolutely agree. I do think some daws can do more or do some things better than others (eg the Arranger in Cakewalk / Cubase, clip launchers if you like that sort of thing, FL had a rep for having the best midi piano roll editor, etc) but I could not agree more that if it works for you and you know how to get the best out of it it's absolutely the daw for you. Free lifetime updates from FL don't hurt either.

Thank you for this video... because I'm tired of these videos that show exercises that won't help you in any way to get to scream. I've been trying to do this for years and I always felt a lot of pressure in my head and pain in my throat, so I stopped and started thinking that I would never be able to get to that point... until I saw this video and a few others that talk about the same path as yours. and I realized that all this time I was trying to do it in a way that wasn't right... I tried this technique once and finally I heard a pleasant distortion in my voice... Let's practice!!!!

I can get a throat singing sound and turn it on and off, just feels like a tension adjustment or like change in effort and closure, but it's not very comfortable. it's scratchy. Is this a placement issue or breath support or what?
@distortedviewsband
@distortedviewsband 9 ай бұрын
Its hard for me to answer without hearing it my self. But It could be too much air, or squeezing too much. I never coughed or had a scratchy throat when learning this technique. Maybe try humming a soft note, and doing the throat singing in a relaxed way acting as a "car". Like revving an engine slowly. Keep it a relaxed hum and it should feel no different to humming without distortion, only difference is you will feel the vibration when you engage the throat singing. :)

I've had the unfortunate fate of acquiring a love for Mongolian/Tuvan throat singing about 9 years ago as a young chap. Me and my mates did the throat singing the wrong way, it hurt. And I've unfortunately developed that bad technique where I can hold those hums for longer periods but with the downside of torturing my throat so I've completely stopped but I'm really struggling with trying to learn it again because I keep coming back to my old ways, where/what would be a good place to start from scratch?
@distortedviewsband
@distortedviewsband 11 ай бұрын
Hey man, I would start by learning placement of the clean voice. If you can learn to place the clean voice up into the soft pallet and feel it resonate there with relaxed humming. When you engage the false chord it should feel just like you're turning on a muscle. No squeezing to make it happen, or pushing. Just like an On/Off switch. Nice, relaxed clean voice, and turning that vibration on and off. Don't even worry about the scream yet. Once you're comfortable with that, it will all click one day.

I listen to it through my Adam a7x's while following along making the exact same preset on my fm3 except for one edit, the amp bass from 4 to 5 and came out with basically the exact same tone using my schecter c7 sls elite. I especially liked the fact you showed how to blend 2 Ir's.

Great video man, yeah I approach extreme vocals just like you explain here after playing with it for a few years. I always roll my eyes if a scream video starts with "just push or sing from your diaphragm and make a frustrated sigh". It's like no dude, you are exerting way too much air and force and people are going to hurt themselves or pass out. The secret is controlling your false cords like throat singing and then learning to relax your voice under it and let a balance of air/voice out through it to make the growl/scream. I also agree there is voice under the distortion, but it needs to be a relaxed voice and balance with air and distortion. Nailing the equilibrium takes practice but once you do you can scream for long periods and not hurt yourself or get tired.
@distortedviewsband
