"Human recession" a good term as the "economy" is more disconnected than ever from the average person. The "economy" may be great for the 1% and corporations, but for the average person here in the USA wages have stagnated for decades while costs have soared, resulting in the middle class being now far poorer than the previous generation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the QR code thing did end up being a total ban; you can't tell where the QR code goes unless you scan it, so it would be hard for them to police a partial ban.

A month of lead time on a sale isn't very long at all.... If you have a big business. This kind of gives me the impression that Etsy has forgotten we are small businesses!

When linking to a product from reviews occasionally it has been discontinued. When that happens Etsy links to a general search for that type of product. Instead of discontinuing such a product I think it would make sense to replace it with something similar from your shop.

Elliot Management buying up enough to get on the board is bad for everyone associated with Etsy, employees and sellers and buyers alike. Really bad. They will strangle the company for as much short term gain as they can, with any action they can take to squeeze even one more penny out no matter how sleezy or who is hurt, and then run it into the ground. When they've taken every last drop of blood, they'll sell it off in pieces to whoever gives them the best price. A lot of people are going to lose their jobs and we can start expecting truly shady behavior, if they get enough shares to be able to ram through whatever changes they want. That's not paranoia or fearmongering or exaggeration. That's their history. That's what they do. That's their entire purpose in existing as a business.

I never bother to participate in Etsy's sales. 25% off really works well for the Temu drop shippers, but it's not great for real handmade sellers. Etsy's suffering weak growth because they have continued to allow drop shippers to sell on the platform and both buyers and sellers are getting fed up. Like you Pam, I do what's best for my customers at this point. If the customer sends me an email, I answer the email. My sales on my website and other platforms where I sell are much stronger than they are on Etsy at this point. Part of that is because I refuse to offer huge discounts when Etsy encourages me to do that. For about 2 years now, I've tried to determine whether I will continue on this platform or not. I'm putting far more effort into my website and I intend to continue that plan because that is in the best interest of my regular customers and it's in my best interest. I'm watching to see if Etsy starts doing the things they say they are going to do to diminish drop shipping. Thus far, Josh's statements about getting stricter with taking down drop ship accounts has not come to fruition as many of the scam shops out there that I have personally reported with detailed information regarding where the items are coming from are still operational today. I haven't given up completely, but at some point I need to see Etsy doing what they say they will do rather than just bringing punitive action toward legitimate sellers through their AI efforts and leaving the scam sellers to lead the pack in sales. By the end of 2024, I will need to decide whether I will stay or go. I hope that it gets sorted out and I can continue into my 10th year with Etsy, but I need to feel like the platform is what they claim they are, otherwise I'm out.

I would like to hear how accurate Etsy was in predicting trends. I always thought the only place you could link to your website was in the About Section. I never thought it was allowed on your banner or anywhere else.

As a new seller, not providing buyers with access to lower ranked items and shops will be the end for us. There is no organic traffic for new sellers, whatsoever. To entice ONE visitor in 6 months, I had to provide free shipping ad purchase adverts. 😅

We are absolutely in a recession. Recessions always start way ahead of Government actually admitting we are in a recession. The US Government won't admit it until there are mass layoffs (which actually started November 2023). We are not crazy - sales are down everywhere. Repossessions are up, credit card debt is up, food and energy are up, people are working multiple jobs...the stock market is being carried by only a few companies. I am trying to work on reducing inventory on my low sellers and not spend money on expensive tools. It really puts a burden on creativity when you can't buy supplies you want to make something new. I am putting a lot of my slow sellers on sale or moving them to other platforms.

I would love to hear how accurate Etsy was in predicting trends. I'm also looking forward to seeing what is left over on Clearance in the big box stores, to see how accurate they were in predicting a pastel Halloween trend. I'm curious if the "Groovy Halloween" actually caught on. Just because the big box stores throws it out, doesn't necessarily mean it's a trend people embrace.

Thanks Pam. I read the the thing about QR codes/taking communication off platform as Etsy not allowing us to use the codes for any reason. A lot of sellers (including myself) had QR codes in listing photos to get people to sign up for newsletters. However I took mine down, just in case. I think Etsy did it because you cannot tell where the QR code leads to and, with all the scammers out there, there was a chance that Etsy would get the blame of allowing sellers to direct people away from their 'safe zone'. You can still link to your web site through your social links but I think it's the only place Etsy wants you to mention your own branding. It's a pity because I got more newsletter sign ups using the QR code than I had in the previous two years 🤷‍♀

after being on etsy for 5 years i am leaving. since etsy changes i have seen my daily views drop from 600 a day to currently 31. their AI experiments have killed sales. My daughter works in AI and advises that it is not ready for what business is trying to shoehorn it into.

"Itsy" ? called Etsy everywhere else

They did this one year for a $1000 Etsy gift card and I won it. So it is legit, but definitely not worth the time or stress of constantly favoriting items. If anything, that’s just going to confuse a lot of sellers, unfortunately. 🫠

When you opt in to offsite ads, you automatically give Etsy permission to bid on your shop name, whether or not it's trademarked. It's 100% opt-in and that is not illegal. I work with IP attorneys for a living. And contract attorneys. There is nothing illegal about it because you have to click buttons to choose to opt in to offsite ads. If anyone doesn't want it, then they shouldn't opt in... super simple. Etsy is not breaking the law.

I’m sure many Etsy shops don’t approve of Etsy bidding on their shop name in Google Search, then charging 15% for a resulting sale. Considering that the sellers shop is already near the top of the Google search page, how is it okay for Etsy to get a cut of the resulting sales by advertising the sellers shop by name?

Hi Pam. Love the shirt! This past few weeks my shop's views/visits and sales took a deep dive off a cliff. There was even a few days with 0 sales and like 20 views. Something crazy like that. My shop has 16,000+ sales and I usually get at least 10 sales a day. I'm just worried! I know its summer time, etc... On the 1st of the month I noticed I didn't get star seller for the 1st time ever. I had a message go to Spam folder that I never got notified for! When I replied it was too late (greater then 24hrs) and the new month happened so no star seller for me. I contacted Etsy support and they said nothing could be done and its a known issue. BAH! I tried putting the message back into spam after replying like someone suggested but that didn't help. Unsure if my listings/shop is pretty much getting throttled/shadow ban or what. But these past few weeks have been MEGA rough. Any suggestions? I'm running a sale and promoting on socials. <3

For me, the big thing is that something which is made from scratch - like a ceramic mug - made from clay and fired in a kiln does, and *should* command a higher price than a POD mug, or one that is designed and then mass produced in a factory. There are more human Labour hours gone into it, and it has more tendency towards being OOAK - even if it’s a repeated design - no two kiln fired ceramic mugs are going to be the exact same. This kind of info needs to be given to be factored in when the buyer is making purchasing decisions, otherwise they can walk away feeling like they paid more for something than they otherwise would have done… and that exposes the PoD seller to complaints and bad reviews they don’t need either.
