Do you plan to do this for more Ys games? Love the music for this series
@Teedyan6 күн бұрын
I do! My graphic card just broke down the other day so I'm working on getting something else going for now so production has halted for a while until I decides on how to proceed. But after getting that sorted out, I'll try to get back to more videos like this for both Ys and Trails (if you're interested in that as well from Falcom). Comments like these makes me motivated, thank you! :)

This is great advice that I think many of us wants to hear if we're on the brink of succumbing to listening to the whole thing. Really excited for the whole thing. Gameplay-wise, how do you think the game holds up compared to the rest of the franchise? Does it make top 3 for you?

I will be buying Ys X when it releases. Likely for PS5 or PC. This track is quite a nice one I've been listening to the Ys X soundtrack a lot in anticipation of playing Ys X. A track recommendation I can make from the Ys X soundtrack is the song called Heat Hazard.
@Teedyan15 күн бұрын
Nice to hear! And I just checked out "Heat Hazard" and it's also a really solid one. It feels like what a fire based location (assumed by the name) should feel like when it comes to Ys music. 😁

Yeah I’ve done the nightmare run, amazing how much more difficult the final boss gets but the other bosses were still pretty easy comparatively. This games soundtrack on the SMS is still fire, even without the enhanced sound 👌
@Teedyan22 күн бұрын
Great work completing that! And then it was just as I feared that the final boss is still the true test of the whole run. I haven't gotten the SMS soundtrack recommended to me before, now I have to check that out as well. 🤩

Thank you for making this video. The first Ys is one of my all-time favorite games. Yes, it's very short and kinda barebones, but to me, it's actually a part of its charm. And strangely enough, my favorite version of its soundtrack would probably be the one from the pc engine version. It's definitely not as good, but somehow, it resonates with me in a way Eternal/Complete OSTs do not. I would've probably blame it on nostalgia, but i've never played that version of the game, so... who knows.
@Teedyan22 күн бұрын
And thank you just as much for enjoying the video and taking your time to comment! I also think that the first game has a certain charm to it that makes it very unique. I have got more comments mentioning the PC-engine version specifically, so if the Ys videos ends up doing somewhat okay I might end up revisiting this game with that version in mind and create a new video of it. I love comparing different versions with each other like that 😁
Hahaha, I thought the exact same thing when looking into that part. 🤣 Just wasn't brave enough to put it in the video.

The Eternal music is better than the Chronicals version.

Interesting take! I played the Eternal version the first time I played the game, but that was ages ago so I don't remember it too well. Then I switched to it now and then in my latest playthrough, but I focused mostly on the Chronicles version. Maybe I need to fully focus on it once to see which version I really like more. 🤔

Ys I&II has better music than this version. As for song, I have to say Crossroad of Sadness slaps the hardest, but I also like Theme of Adol.
@Teedyan23 күн бұрын
Ohhh, is that the PC-engine version? I have never checked it out properly but this comments makes me totally want to do that. While I enjoy the music in Chronicles mostly I think that the guitar is taking too much of a lead role in most of the arrangements. Thanks for the comment! 🔥

Which came first. Playing the game to get footage for the video, or playing the game and realising you need to make a video? 👀
@Teedyan24 күн бұрын
It came from playing the game on Twitch and for once actually recording all the game footage raw (without any streaming interface on top of it). Since I had it all available, I wanted to make a video from it as some of the work had already been done. 😁

Thank you for dedicating a video to this great track, one of my favorites in the game. Nice idea! Something almost drove me nuts with this song though: there are two versions of the original, with slightly different instrumentation, and the other one seems to have gone almost completely unnoticed (check it out in FightinCowboy's let's play, part 48, 21:57, for instance). It's an even more soothing and a bit more accordion-heavy version, and I think it's incredibly beautiful. I was in awe at 23:16 the first time (in said part 48). The only other mention of it I found was someone in a KZfaq comment saying the more well-known one plays past a certain point in the story and/or after collecting most intel. Meaning the first one is then lost forever, even in Chapter Mode (same happened to the darker version of the chocobo/swamp theme in the Grasslands, also a banger). Before I found it again in that let's play, I was beginning to think I was going crazy and made it all up, since no matter how often I listened to the theme, the freaking accordion wouldn't show up where it should 😅Too bad it's nowhere to be found. Probably in another timeline.

And thank you for such a dedicated comment! 😁 I checked out the timestamps you mentioned and you're right, it is different and I haven't found anything about this song either before. And when I heard it in the game I wasn't familiar enough with the song to notice that it was different. I have nothing against rare songs in games, but it sucks a bit that you can't even hear the song again even with chapter select at your disposal. Thanks for bringing some light on this. 🌟

Personally I'm excited to hear what music they'll add for the interior of riverside station, because the inside of the building in the original game was just complete silence (which does kind of fit the atmosphere). There was actually an unused track for the place in the original game's files, so maybe they'll remix that song in the remake.

i'll be honest i hope there's an option to have the old tracks (tldr new versions are fine but in comparison to the original, meh) the new versions definitely lean more towards the "modern paper mario" sound, a more big band + rock style, whereas the original was more electronic, with tons of weird sounds and complex percussion. the new ones definitely feel more homogenized and have less personality I should do a full analysis of this when the game comes out, but if we just take the title theme, the original had some really cool layered latin percussion. in the new one, yeah you can hear hints of congas and triangle but they're mostly hidden behind a simpler drum beat. also one thing i notice is that the sound design of the new songs, while "brighter" is also "rounder", whereas the original had tons of "spiky" sounds, which were tingly and satisfying, so the new ones sound duller in comparison
@Teedyan3 ай бұрын
Interesting to hear from someone that knows music, thanks for writing your thoughts on it. I think there is hope for the new soundtrack but having the possibility to switch between them is always the best as comparing the two is always fun.
