Love the design! A tip for the dowels: drill the holes in the tenons slightly off from the holes in the mortise. The dowel will then pull the joint together an the dowel will be held tight (no glue needed).

thanks! yes that would've been a good idea. I've seen that done sometime, but didn't dare it with all the strange angles. I wouldn't know a reasonably fast way to get the holes in the right place. And as it's wet wood that'll be out in the sun, it's gonna move a ton, so I would've added some glue anyway I think? But it's a good suggestion and I'd like to try it sometime!

I just love your design. I plan on stealing elements of it for an upcoming gate project. I say "elements" because my gate must keep animals corralled, but I can make it practical and still add hints of your lovely design.

Design is awesome but it is looking like frame. Gate is stoper for animals and some unwanted entering to your property 😄

Will it have some sort of latching mechanism?
@KnowHome-yc4ylАй бұрын
it has! watch the very very end. It took us a couple months before we got to it, but we made a nice little metal pin that goes from one gate to the other. It's not strong and it doesn't lock with a key or something like that, but this gate is currently "protecting" an empty field, so it's fine

Inspiring design! Will eventually need a proper gate myself, currently just have some wire mesh hanging from three corners 😅 Looking forward for part three!

if you make a similar design, pay extra attention to the side with the diagonal in tension

Liked the video! When I finished watching the first episode, immediately started to search for the second one. Great video, great editing, nice work! I love that you show us the mistakes, it really brings the audience closer. Keep it up!! Greetings from Hungary!

Strange isn't it? It /feels/ as if it's super likely to be shit when I start something. But if I look back at past projects, only a few are actually really shitty, and most are surprisingly ok-ish

Nice work in overcoming the challenges. Getting the pivot at the right tension for cuttingis the balence I am trying to learn now. Finishing up a similar set of shears as yours. I agree with others. No paint is needed. Just keep some paste wax on them to prevent rust.
