No wind value. This scope was running a pre-release version of the firmware that had the holdover marked shifted about 4 or 5 pixels to the right of the vertical stadia on the reticle. There is a newer version of the firmware which eliminates this problem, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet

BC is Ballistic Coefficient - a measure of how aerodynamic a bullet is. High BC values indicate better aerodynamics which results in the bullet losing speed more slowly and therefore dropping less at a given distance than a bullet with a low BC

This optic is still in color mode (daytime) and I can see them perfectly. 30 minutes later I switched to night vision with no help from the illuminator at this distance, they were in full view. Amazing value given this quality at dusk night you would have paid dearly for as in 4-8k.

I was wrong - and that was due to my not having fully understood the workings of the Arken ballistic app. When a ballistic profile is created in the app, a ballistic table is produced which gives the holdover/holdunder for a given range - however it is necessary to specify a minimum and maximum range at which the ballistic calculator will work. What happened in the part of the video you referenced is that I had set the maximum working range of the ballistic table for a distance less than I was ranging. In this case the ballistic table is unable to calculate the holdover and indicated that situation by giving a range error message

Hi Bruce great videos mate, Question for you , so I just got a zulus so once you put all your balistic info in save it . When I next turn it on to use do I need to do anything in the menu to switch on Bluetooth ect or just turn on and range it and should be bang on ?? Thank you
@brucemcpherson88327 ай бұрын
Once you have entered all the ballistic data into the app, you need to save it and then create a ballistic table. Then connect the scope and your phone with bluetooth and send the ballistic table to the scope by pressing the paper aeroplane icon at the top of the ballistic table screen. After you have done that you don't need your phone any more. Then you can range a target with one press of the LRF button and a second press of the LRF button will show a holdover mark on the reticle (holdover mode) or shift the reticle to the aiming point (diall in mode) Remember that the range you zeroed the scope at has to be the same zero range you entered in the app

@brucemcpherson8832 Hi Bruce Thanks for your reply . And say I won't to add another Balistic table for slugs this time .. I know I put in all the info but how do you go from one to the other I will zero them both at 30 yards ..
@brucemcpherson88327 ай бұрын
The scope can only hold one ballistic table at a time. So, if you have loaded a ballistic table for a specific pellet and you want to change to slugs, then you need to load the ballistic table for the slugs and that will overwrite the table for the pellets. When you want to go back to pellets, you load the ballistic table for the pellets and that will overwrite the ballistic table for slugs so that the ballistic table for pellets will be the active (and only) ballistic table in the scope
@simoncoher48417 ай бұрын
@brucemcpherson8832 Hi Bruce sorry be a pain mate, So I understand what you saying only balistic table at a time , so say I put info for slugs ect , next time when I want to use pellets do I zero it and put in all the information in again ??
@brucemcpherson88327 ай бұрын
No, you set up a ballistic profile in the app which includes height of the scope above the bore, frag function (G1), zero distance, muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient for the pellet/slug. The profile can then be saved in the app with a name that you give it. You can create and save as many ballistic profiles in the app as you want, but you can only have one of those profiles loaded into the scope at any one time. If you want to put another profile into the scope, you have to connect the scope and your phone by bluetooth and then send the profile to the scope. If you want to change profiles, then you connect the scope to your phone and send the new profile There is a complete guide to using the app here arkenoptics.uk/blogs/guest-blogging/arken-optics-ballistic-app

@youtube_threeBairguns8 ай бұрын
Hello friend, question: I observed in the video that sometimes the ballistic calculator does not respond to the signal sent by the rangefinder, do you know if it is due to a fault in the scope or because of the distance? How much is the maximum distance at which you have measured and has Did you answer the ballistic calculator correctly?...thank you
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
Whether or not the rangefinder actually gives a range from a specific target can depend on the nature of the target and how well it reflects the light from the laser back to the scope The maximum range I have measured using the scope is over 800m If the scope gets enough reflected light from the laser to be able to give a range, then the ballistic calculator can calculate the aiming point. However, depending on the ballistic data being used it is possible for the calculated aiming mark to be below the bottom of the display and not visible to the user For example, If I use a low powered air rifle zeroed at 30 yards using pellets with a muzzle velocity around 600fps and range a target at 200 yards, the trajectory of the pellets would be such that the aiming point calculated by the ballistic calculator will be far below the bottom of the display and would not be visible. In that situation, the scope would display a "Range Error" message

Another quick question, say im scanning around / calling with the spotter and fox suddenly pops up, How quick do these scopes switch on? Or can you switch on then have a bitton to instantly switch to standby and back? Thanks
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
When the scope is switched on, it can be put into standby mode with a brief press of the power button. This switches off the display and IR illuminator to save power and extend battery life Another brief press on the power button brings the scope back to full operation in less than 1/2 second

Hi Bruce, just found your channel, great in depth look at the scope footage. Very impressive too. Ive got a 223 for foxing, and currently using an add on, thinking of upgrading to a dedicated digital scope sometime. I find the dayscope, pard 007, vcsel torch and picatinny lrf a lot of bulk. This scope looks a neat little gem. Would you recommend it over everything else for the aprox pricepoint at this time? Thanks. Alpex is a forerunner too but it is a bit of big scope still, and still requires a torch (i dont normally use 50mm objective days scopes etc...) 👍
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
The Arken Zulus is far and away the best "bang for your buck" digital day/night scope available at the moment. I definitely recommend it over anything close to it's price point - and quite a long way beyond its price point. Compared to the Alpex, the Arken is smaller, lighter, neater and is an out of the box ready to go solution - it comes with an excellent IR and mounts directly onto a picatinny rail - so no rings needed

can you set up zulus without using a smartphone.i dont fancy using my phone on a dark nights ratting.keep up the good work
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
To use the ballistic calculator you do need a smart phone - but you don't need to have the phone permanently connected to the scope. The Arken ballistics app is on your phone and using the app, you enter the ballistic data for for the rifle/ bullet combination you want to use. The app then creates a ballistic table using that data, and it is then sent to your scope via bluetooth. Once that is done you don't need your phone anymore In use, you simply range the target using the laser rangefinder and the ballistic calculator in the scope uses the ballistic table to calculate the correct aiming point. To get this to work correctly you must have already zeroed the scope with the same bullet/pellet you plan to use, and the the zero range you enter in the app must be the same range at which you zeroed the scope
@Sharpshooter7248 ай бұрын
Hi Bruce, I am considering buying this scope but someone posted an issue with the Zulus on another site, is this true🤔 From other site zulus hd 5-20 n/v scope very pleased withe the scope,just one thing is when you zero it the cross hairs do not go back to centre thats the only issue.
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
Yes, it's true that when you zero the scope it's extremely likely that the reticle will not be in the centre of the display - this is the case with almost all digital scopes. AFAIK, only the PARD DS35 centres the reticle after the scope is zeroed and that comes with the penalty of a large reduction in field of view Only people who have really bad OCD are bothered by the reticle not being in the centre of the screen. The rest of us ignore it and just get on with shooting things 🙂

Nice video! Thank you so much. Do you have to keep your phone connected to the scope for the ballistic calculator to work?
@brucemcpherson88328 ай бұрын
The ballistic calculator can work in 2 different modes, one of which requires a continuous bluetooth connection to your phone and the other (which is most commonly used) does not require a continuous connection between the scope and the app The mode to be used is selected in the main menu of the scope. "Ballistic table call"mode involves entering ballistic data into the app, from which the app creates a ballistic table which is sent to the scope by bluetooth. Once that is done the scope and the phone are disconnected and all the ballistic calculations are done in the scope. The target is ranged and the ballistic calculator then provides a holdover mark on the reticle or shifts the reticle to the aiming point In "Real Time Ballistic Calculation" mode, ballistic data is entered into the app and when the target is ranged. that information is sent to the app, the ballistic calculation is performed and the ballistic solution sent back to the scope and the result displayed either as a holdover or reticle shift It appears that the benefit of the real time ballistic calculation mode is that wind data can be entered into the app and the resulting aiming mark will show windage as well as elevation
