Ashoka is another common name for this tree. It was used to make the masts of wooden sailing boats long, long time ago in India.

I am sure you will enjoy the visit. If you are driving, try to go early because car parks can be difficult when you go later in the day.

Bah Soon Pah Road used to end at present day Orchid Country Club. At the end Bah Soon Pah, near the water edge, lived my grandfather and his huge family. The rubber tree plantation where Bah Soon Pah road runs through was then owned by Lim Nee Soon. Grandfather, Tan Theng Chor, was grandson of Tan Yong Siak. Nee Soon was indebted to Yong Siak. When grandfather relocated from Beijing back to Singapore, Nee Soon calved out a plot of land to grandfather to build his new family home. Father was born there and lived there until he was working in town. When I was young, we used to visit old family home (Sua Theng) at the end of Bah Soon Pah road with dad till late 1970s, early 1980s. Fond memories of sitting in dad's car while he drove through Bah Soon Pah road. In one occasion, in the wee hours of Qing Ming to meet with grandmother and his siblings, we saw rubber tappers at work under candle lights. That was in late 1970s. Fourth uncle who was last living there then was relocated to Marsiling. Another neighbour was relocated to Yishun. And yes, we are all Teochew. Family home was on a plot that included 2 fish ponds, large chicken barn, a pig sty and a durian plantation.

In Kenya, Kisumu town, in a piece of land that I purchased recently. I am happy that they seem to be doing very well
@bretangota4241 Жыл бұрын
What have done is that I have planted them round the compound, near the fence from inside to act as a barrier and make the residence cool
@TravelwithLeongThian Жыл бұрын
@@bretangota4241 hi Breta! You have selected the correct tree to plant in the compound around your house. The great characteristic of the Indian Mast trees is that the branches point downwards, hence, the danger of strong winds uprooting it or breaking the branches is minimal. Furthermore, the tree is very beautiful.

Wow! That is something! The Chinese believe that in the Seventh month of the Lunar Year, ghosts are allowed to roam freely. The 7th month started on Friday 29th July and ends on 26th August. So, yes, Old Upper Thomson Road would be a good place to see some paranormal activities. I did a video on Adam Park and I pointed out that many soldiers died there. So, that place also has paranormal activities at night! Go check it out!
@kattymine6585 Жыл бұрын
oh guys, is this road the junction of Upper Thomson Road and Yio Chu Kang Road? last time I was staying in Teacher's estate close to bus station there and this video reminds me of some artists making videos in that area. that place is actually great for jogging. you can get fresh air and calmness
@TravelwithLeongThian Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. It is just walking distance from Teacher's Estate. Old Upper Thomson Road has been transformed into a one way Road with half of the road allocated to walkers, joggers & cyclists. Are you not in Singapore now?
@virtualworldsbyloff Жыл бұрын
No more sailors and hookers, just cabaret shows now... You will still find some old ugly prostitutes on the outskirts of this area, that will call you out at 4AM, as you leave the clubs

very good and concise documentary.. wish you could tell the viewers more about the supernatural sightings and experiences.. ,.. many of us do know that before exiting old upper thomson road there used to be a rifle range and the area around it all the way to seletar reservoir lies spore only primary forest .. keep up your good work
@TravelwithLeongThian Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments. There have been many deaths in the areas during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore & sightings of super natural things were common in the early days. But nowadays we hear very little of it. I am glad that you enjoyed watching the videos. Give me a 👍
