How to talk to your Duolingo followers Please Help

So I read on the Duolingo site/blog dated July 19, 2023 that they are no longer allowing personal photos. They give the option of either creating an avatar or it will be the initial of your name. At the end it states, “Note: once you change your profile to an avatar, you will no longer be able to upload a photo.” Aaaaaand there was no further explanation for this change.

@cuteek we got a minion tin with one sticker in it this time. Our hello kitty one was the same but 9/10 it's a cardboard thing or a sticker sheet. Unless they do the pokémon stuff. In the uk they went plastic free on toys in January 2021. Used to love all the cool toys in mine when I grew up

In the free version we cannot use a personal profile picture anymore. I'm sticking to the one I have because if I remove it then I'll be forced to have an avatar which I don't want. So, unless we get a paid version, there's no way to change the profile picture. Enjoy your avatars.

I'd use a vinegar & baking soda paste & a soft brush with the door knob 👍 now I have to go take a closer look at my door knobs because I can't remember the last time I cleaned them 🤣 I wipe them with disinfectant wipes but haven't cleaned cleaned them, so I've probably just been disinfecting the dirt 🤣

Back in 2018, When I decided to try out Duolingo for a brief moment, I could have a photo. Now that I'm back in 2024 the website will only let me have an Avatar I'm sure if I do this Avatar thing I will lose forever my picture; I do not want an Avatar. Yes, I'm using a computer with Windows 11 on a Chrome Browser; the Cell phone is the same way. I like being able to have pictures. Sad...

there's been an update by the official Duolingo page: they clarified that we won't be able to upload custom pictures no more because of a change in their policy so we are stuck with the avatars forever :(
