Thanks for sharing this - I just had a flight today and stumbled on the very simple VOR TO and FROM decision - Compared to Analog gauges where you can read To and From the G5 can be tricky as you show in your video - I will use it to remind myself on the proper use (2 Arrow pointing in same direction = G5 Courseis showing TO, if both arrow are point 180 opposite then G5 Course is FROM) 6:30 to 8:00 in your video

Configuration of this is installation is wrong! HSI page on the G5 AI should be disabled per part23 AML STC installation manual. You should not be able to select HSI on G5 AI. However the G5 HSI should be able revert to AI mode automatically or can be selected manually.

The OBS function around the 9:30 to 11:00 times was exactly what I was looking for. I fly in and out of a class delta with crossing runways that are only about 40 degrees different, and after 50 approaches I STILL have a hard time setting up for one versus the other. Having the bold runway displayed should help!

I know this is an old video, but I have literally just subscribed to KZfaq to make this comment! Thank you so much, I was struggling with understanding holds, and there is loads out there about which way to enter the hold, but not a lot that helps you determine where the hold is in relation to the fix. This absolutely nailed it for me, thank you so much! Absolute LEGEND!

The third unit is a Garmin GPS. That's where the navigation information for both G5s comes from. Their airplane is equipped with one, so they demonstrate how they work together.

With the speed that some pilots read that clearance back (I work an adjacent sector at ZDC) they know EXACTLY what they should have filed. Or they filed it, and someone at a center to the south of here cleared them direct and the pilot didn't question it. This particular one is probably the biggest pain in the neck FRC I have to issue. Readbacks like this are par for the course because of all of the fixes.
@midlifeflyer
@midlifeflyer Жыл бұрын
@@bart99gt you hit one of the big takeaways I see. Many GA pilots fear getting it wrong. Sounding stupid. Getting snark. But It sounded like both pilot and controller were comfortable with the fact that the pilot was not able to get it all in one shot. Pain in the neck but par for the course. No big deal. Your other point happened to me once. I was returning south from FRG. Decided to try something a little different. Looked like it got accepted but when I called, I got the FRC for the route I knew I should have filed :D

Reroutes like this are issued by Traffic Management Units (TMU) to create a manageable “Flow” of traffic into certain areas. The reasons for reroute can be convective weather along the route, over saturation of traffic in specific airspace, or over saturation of traffic at the destination airport. Additionally, reroutes can be required by Letter of Agreement between facilities. The receiving facility requires the transferring facility to move aircraft over routes specified in that agreement.

I really wish there was narration. It is impossible to see the movement and identify what was done just by looking and reading. keep trying
@midlifeflyer
@midlifeflyer Жыл бұрын
I know. Some of these videos were intended as a quick down-and-dirty demo for someone, so they don't have narration. But if it helps, all I did was: 1. Go to the flight plan. 2. Cursor to the end of the leg you want to activate. Since I want to activate the leg from PECIT to PURME, I cursor to PURME. 3. From there you have two choices. What I did here was press the D→ key twice. The first press is "Direct To" the second press is "Activate Leg." 4. Press Enter. The other choice for number 3 is to press the Menu key and select "Activate Leg" from there. Many (including me) think this is a better choice than pressing D→ twice.

It was my first time so it's hard to compare. I was alone with no extra set of eyes to help watch for reporting points. So overall, Skyline with ATC seemed a better choice than self reporting just a few hundred feet below.
