Being dropped by the record label is often a good thing. It gives the artist a chance to do what they want to do rather than what the record company wants them to do. But the majority of Idol winners have not become stars so it's not guaranteed, it requires hard work and a certain amount of luck.

With respect, by definition, THE breakout star of American Idol season 22 is Abi Carter. A breakout honorable metion would be Will Mosely. Mia has publicly said the at the time of her departure, she was tired and just didn't have the interest to keep competing and just phoned it in. Having a career in an industry like the music industry is a lot of long days and hard work... for years. Mia, by her own comments has made clear she lacks the will or desire to do the work. She may have a career one day, but she's going to have to grow up first and get serious about what a successful career in the business takes. Other honorable mentions... Tristen Harper and Kaibrienne. Both are young, but as they mature, I think they're going to do very well. McKenna is already a pro in the business... I can see her with a career like Katharine McPhee... multi talented.
