Bobby Kennedy would have beaten Nixon without a doubt. He might have shortened the war. But nooooo, the cretin Sirhan had to kill him, and we still do not know WHY! Wouldn't you think that the number one question would have been his MOTIVE? But it was never discussed, because of the birth of political correctness.

There are some inaccuracies/things I wish were mentioned in this video. Daydream Believer's reign at #1 (which was its actual peak) ended in December 1967 so it did not reach #2 but was likely at #2 in January. Sure there were happy songs that hit the top 10 but no mention of Honey by Bobby Goldsboro (which hit #1 in April), Love is Blue by Paul Mauriat (which at least sounds sad to me and hit #1 in February) or Hey Jude by the Beatles (which hit #1 in September)? I hardly consider those songs happy and they actually were bigger hits than the songs mentioned in the video. Also, Those Were the Days and Both Sides Now didn't sound that happy (or at least to me)

Why not play the number one song for each month so we have a more accurate idea of which songs were most popular on the radio then?

The fucked-up thing was that we could be drafted at 18. but could not VOTE!!!!! Then, you had to be 21 to vote and drink a beer (which might have been harmful!!l).

Why so upbeat in a nightmare year?? Simple: if you were safe in college (as was I) things were lovely. If you were not and drafted they were obviously not.

Every year had it's bad times. 68 wasn't any different. Like George Smith said, I had the time of my life, just worked around all the bad times. Just another guy who turned 18 that year.

When we are 18 that is always how it is, I think. I was 10 in 1968, didn't know much about what was going on, but I do remember the riots on the news and of course MLK and RFK assassinations. I think that was the year that the seeds were planted for the division and bitterness in our country today.

I turned 18 in August and had to register for the draft at that time. Still, I could enjoy student deferments for a long time. Was it fair? I dunno now.

Very good video. But one of the major 1968 world events that was not covered here was the Soviet Union's invasion of Czechoslovakia on August 20th 1968 for the purpose of crushing democratic reforms in that country and re-establishing Marxist policies. But of course, 1968 was a very eventful year and it would be hard to cover everything that happened then.
