Absolutely wonderful production. Kudos to all the performers, but especially Soare as Cenerentola, whose voice rang sweet and true. The setting , while quite simple, was perfect. There was comedy aplenty, and Mi Credea was sung to perfection. Bravissimo!!!!! I have seen this opera many times, and this production rises to the top

This version of Iolanta, despite being transported to another time, I find very beautiful in its simplicity, fidelity to the original spiritualist libretto (in the Soviet versions all spiritualist content was adulterated by the censorship). And singers convincingly play their roles, they're good actors. And it has English subtitles.

Опера - клас! Голоси - хороші. Але теперішні постановки, "сучасне прочитання" - фуфло. Тільки й заплачеш за Дзефіреллі..

Well, in order to enjoy you need to understand this Opera, and I will try to explain you: In Act 1, Uberto is upset and sings about how his servant Serpina is neglecting her duties. When Serpina enters without the coffee Uberto had requested, she asserts that she will no longer take orders from him (this is cute and funny). Angry about Serpina’s increasingly insubordinate behaviour, Uberto declares that he must put Serpina in her place by giving her a mistress to serve (indication of love :-). Therefore, Uberto decides, he must get married. He orders Gatone to find him a wife but Serpina objects, saying that he should marry her instead. Act I ends with a duet by Serpina and Uberto, arguing over his choice of bride (how this can not be enjoyable?) In Act 2 - in order to make Uberto jealous, Serpina decides she needs a suitor of her own. She solicits the help of Gatone who agrees to disguise himself as a soldier asking for her hand. Gatone waits off stage while Uberto enters and Serpina declares her intention to marry her “suitor.” While she goes to get Gatone, Uberto tries to figure out his true feelings for Serpina (Ahh love, never enough of it) Serpina returns with her suitor and sings an aria about how Uberto will miss her when she is gone. The act closes with Uberto’s realization that having Serpina is better than losing her. Uberto declares that he will marry her himself - and this is one happy end story. So now here is the catch, we are living in 21st century and this opera was written in 18th century so you must put yourself in this period without netflix (still meaningless) comedies or lates Lady Gaga horrible music - so what else is left than simply to watch these excellent young Serbian actors and enjoy!

The tenor's voice is what was probably common when this opera was first performed. Certainly, he is no Juan Diego Florez.

Everything she said to those young singers was absolutely spot on. This lady has a great sense of how to guide and nurture young talent. I say they're all very fortunate to have had this experience.
