The prihana isn’t nearly as good as marking fish and finding fish and the structure as the helix . You should have used that , you can find the structure and the fish near it and you can’t with the piranha

I could have used the Helix as a portable sonar unit as well. It was a throwback trip in time for us and we treated it accordingly. The Piranha did a good job so we just rolled with it.

Good morning, Steve I enjoy your style of teaching and have learned a lot from it/you. I have a question for you I currently use my Mega Live on a Helix 9 and I am considering a Helix 12 and the images in this video are wonderful with this being way before the most recent update. I'm at a true crossroads. Do I make the jump to a Solix 12 or stay with the Helix line in a 12? I have also heard Solix and Helix don't work well together. When watching your newer videos I see you are currently running Solix so I think you would be most helpful with an opinion. Any input would be greatly appreciated Steve.

Thanks for the kind words. The resolution on the Helix and Solix 12 are the same. The main advantage of Solix is the touchscreen. I would get the Helix 12 and save yourself some $. I have done comparisons with the Solix and Aprx but I don’t run either one. All my units are Helix. The resolution on the Helix 12 is better than the Helix 9.

That was a nice job explaining that! I have a question, I have a Helix 7 to help track my way point for when I am up front fishing. I have it communicatting with my Helix 10 at the steering wheel. I marked a waypoints with my Helix 7 but not on my 10. It shows up on my 10 when both are hooked up, but I will not let me rename it . Do I manually enter the latitude coordinates from the 7 into the Helix 10 even though it shows the waypoint on my 10? Or do I create a new waypoint and put the same information in the 10?

After doing all kinds of research on the internet, I got the Terrova, 12V. 55 thrust and 45 shaft. I think that it will pull my 17 foot Nitro pretty well as I had a Motor Guide with a 40 pound thrust and that pulled it very well. I am going to have it mounted in the next couple of days and really look forward to trying it out. It's got a few more "bells & whistles" than I need, but I hope to learn how to get it to work. I think that the Spot Lock feature will really be a help the way that I fish. I bought it mainly for the Auto Pilot. When I lived in Florida, in the 90's, I had an AP motor and LOVED it!! I just bought a used boat and this was the next BIG step on "tricking it out" like I wanted to. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. The down imaging beam is narrow making it difficult to see your bait. You will have more success using your 2D sonar which shoots out a cone signal. The cone angle will allow you to see your bait. MegaLive is also another way to see your bait. Ice fishing you can even see your swivel above the drop shoot hook, bait, and weight falling.

Do you know if you can over ride the automatic stowing feature where it turns the head automatically when you pull up on the rope? For example, in shallow water I often pick up the motor but only half way and use the foot pedal to steer still and guide the motor to get out of the shallow water so the bottom of the motor is not hitting the bottom of the lake but still running the motor so I can power out while picking it up a smidge. Unsure how this may read as I have been having a hard time describing this in writing.

Yes you can override the stow feature. Just pull it up like normal, it orients itself but you just simply step on the foot pedal and it operates just like you are used to when steering out of shallower water.

Awesome! My only last concern is the size and weight. I have an 18ft bass boat and went from a motorguide scissor mount to a Terrova. Terrova has such a small foot print and is nice but the issue is hard to add 360 and/or other accessories. I love the small footprint of the Terrova though but wish I could add the other stuff. My Terrova is getting old now and thinking of updating.

I had a 2018 Ulterra on my boat with Ipilot link with the touch screen remote. The remote is so sensitive that when my shirt brushed against the screen it would make the trolling motor to do things you didn't want it to do. Like deploy in shallow water and it ended up bending the stow/deploy motor shaft. It also locked the remote without me knowing and I was trolling on speed 6 when I saw a big submerged rock, I tried steering around it but nothing happened because the remote was locked. I hit that rock and me and my partner were thrown out of our seats to the ground. Luckily we didn't get hurt but we could of easily. The last time I went fishing the trolling motor failed to deploy, I finally got that to work and then it wouldn't trim up or down. I never got that to work. I believe it fried either the main board or the trim motor board. But, it's still under warranty. So, I purchased the new quest ulterra. That thing is a BEAST. I am still in the installation phase. When I get my 2018 ulterra back from warranty work, I am going to sell it. I hope I won't have any problems with this new motor. I am glad it doesn't have the touch screen remote because that is what gave me all the problems on my old unit. I also bought the MK57 plate for the Quest ulterra. I don't know if I will use it yet because it's really heavy and my boat is a Nitro 170dc. With the new motor being over 20lbs heavier, it might be too much weight in the front with that plate. Plus, I am 330lbs..LOL Thanks for your video 😊 Tight lines Bro

No circles to calibrate, just the keel offset, straight on deploy, and stow orientation. Quite simple to set up. The motor comes with a separate instruction manual to complete set up. In the installation manual, it goes into a discussion about indexing the trolling motor. In my experience, the trolling motor and prop shaft line up with the pedal being parallel to the boat so you are usually good to go as far as indexing goes. My boat should be good to go by the end of the day.

You make good points on the reason for larger reels. One I don't totally agree with. I fish smaller, shallower waters than you, so most reels have too much line capacity. I solved that by putting a filler on my reels, and can keep fresh line on.my reels for less cost. The issue is retreive speed. I spend more time slowing my retreive down for a longer presentation than utilizing the retreive speed of the reel. Thanks for your informative videos.

Lift assist option? Also the bottom looks different than the one I just purchased. Can anyone explain?
