The Godox Lux Master is a perplexing addition to the photography market. Its functionality seems limited compared to traditional speedlights or strobes like the AD200 or 400 series. I'm struggling to find a clear use case for it. It's unfortunate that many KZfaqrs prioritize sponsorships over genuine product reviews. I recommend aspiring photographers focus on essential gear to avoid unnecessary expenses.
@fjhphoto7 сағат бұрын
I don't think I said anywhere in this review that it's essential because that wouldn't feel genuine to me. I said it looks cool and that's actually what a lot of people thought as well in my Instagram reel about the light. It's just a fun light to have cuz of the retro look. For practical purposes I would use this light for wide angle photos on the dance floor at events. Especially if there's no ceiling to bound off of which is the case outdoors. Hold in my left hand, take phoros with my right.

What happens in a few years when the battery stops holding charges? Is it replaceable?

Kinda no way for me to test how the battery holds up in the long term but I'd imagine you can send it to either B&H or Adorama and they'll fix it.

Heard the bulb is not user replaceable. Is it true? If so it's a shame since they could have used the AD200/200Pro bulb instead of designing a new one.

Godox products always look so cheaply made. This one especially, it looks like something from the toy aisle of a 99¢ store. Back in the film days this was a popular press photographer light and was called a potato masher. Often attached to the camera with an L bracket. Metz and Sunpack were popular brands.

When they were getting ready to make the original Star Wars the prop people went around and bought all of the Graflex flash handles they could find. The owner of Garland Camera in Garland, Texas told me they paid him a visit and got the ones he had. The light saber props were made with Graflex flash handles.

Great presentation Francisco of this small compact light. This is my first time seeing the light. Seems pretty cool to use with an assistant. Very light and portable! What about its use if you have no assistant? I’m assuming it would produce a rather hard light due to not being able to get close enough to your subject if hand holding it.
@fjhphoto4 күн бұрын
Good concern to have for sure. It's so light and the softbox doesn't weigh much either that I would be fine using this light in some fairly strong wind on a light stand weighed down by just by camera bag. But if you can't use a light stand then yes you would get harsher light when using anything past a 35mm lens because of the distance. Without an assistant I would hold the light in my left hand while I take a photo with my right.

Might be a buy eventually, more portability is always a good thing!!!!

The X3 transmitters need a dire update and I hope Godox can offer relief to thousands of photographers who purchased their newest trigger offering. The pause feature still tells the camera a flash is still attached to the camera when attempting to take an ambient reading or exposure with shot preview! The boot times turning it off and on again really does add up while at a shoot! With that said, Godox always seems to have something interesting going on and this new light you featured is a testament to their ongoing mission to create and offer new and exciting products. I really enjoyed the results you shared! They are lucky to have a master such as yourself as a brand ambassador!
@fjhphoto6 күн бұрын
I agree with your suggestion about the pause feature. That would be awesome if that gave the camera back the ambient reading. Maybe I can suggest this in an update.

I love the aesthetics of the Lux series, but I'm not a big fan of the shift towards non-replaceable batteries because they're bound to degrade over the years, and I don't want to replace entire gadgets just because of the batteries. I did get the Lux Junior though for on-camera fill, but the low profile of the flash requires me to take off the lens hood.
@fjhphoto6 күн бұрын
Oh yeah, I'm the same way about batteries but it is just a matter of time to see how they hold up. I thought the X3 transmitter would die quick but it has lasted so long. I did about 8 photoshoots with it and it was still good but I wanted to charge it after those.

@@fjhphotoactually I’ve never owned any but have a couple colleagues who do and i I’ve helped them on shoots on several occasions (one regularly). I’ve noticed they are glitchy and not built to last. But they are cheap. I have seen a lot of people using their cinema lights though and those seem to be good quality. I got heavily invested in Profoto back in the day because at the time they were the only option for HSS and TTL in a portable location mono light. But they are expensive. But also built tough. If I were to start over I would probably go with Elinchrome because they are good professional lights for much less money. Godox is the least expensive but not really a pro flash. Broncolor makes the best stuff but are prohibitively expensive unless your a top dog. 🐩 I have noticed from my colleagues gear that Godox has been improving in quality and they are certainly innovative and come out with a lot of different solutions other manufacturers don’t think of. I see their value.

@@johnhewick1145sorry, can't take anyone serious who bashes a product yet hasn't used it themselves. I've used Godox lighting since 2016 and they've all performed great for my professional photography. Profoto fails too btw. In August 2021 I did a shoot where the light was misfiring. It was my friend's lights. Same friend got a light repaired by profoto and got that light lost on the way back. Told him he was SOL. I'll stick to what works for me and you can do the same.
