Geezer bangs on about the debt in 2008 caused by the banking crash which the pint loser cashed in on but doesn't realise it could have been even worse if Labour hadn't put in tighter banking regulations. Let's look at the scam calling itself Reform UK PLC the PLC part strangely gets overlooked they are a public limited company with two CEO's both very wealthy men one Richard Tice and Nigel Farage they both hold the purse strings but unlike any other political party they do their best to hide just who it is that is funding them while they go around shouting about wanting more transparency. They claim to be the alternative both were privately educated come from wealthy backgrounds Richard Tice millionaire property developer and Nigel Farage one time precious metals trader how is that the alternative to the Tories who are privately educated wealthy individuals? I can only see similarities these are not "men of the people" just snake oil selling grifters but if you're intellectually challenged enough to think that these posh boys are the alternative then I've got some nice union jack decorated pet rocks and some shares in London Bridge to sell you.

@@flashartvimes3332 It's about time it did. Did the Soviet Union or does the People's republic of North Korea operate direct democracy? No, we know they were/are dictatorships use "the people" as a facade. Interesting article that refers to the Bill Of Rights 1688. The constitutional contract from the Declaration of Rights with parliament wrestled powers from the monarchy for parliament to decide laws and policy. Such a system has worked well for 300 years, could easily insert referendums on constitutional issues, treaties and laws (via petitions). Then parliament started outsourcing competences, laws and policies to foreign organisations, giving foreign courts preeminent judicial authority like the EU and ECJ to decide, beyond "the people" to decide in any democratic system and this includes the ECHR. Parliament outsourcing their sovereign powers to foreign bodies is contrary to the Bill of Rights 1688. It didn't matter if the government wore Blue, Red or Yellow, the EU and its courts decided. The article goes onto to describe sovereignty, but neglects to mention sovereign control AKA competences. They both go hand in glove. The Swiss have had direct democracy since 1840. Every law or treaty being passed by their cantons and parliament can be challenged by referendums through petitions, which is probably why it could never join the EU.

Great: I'm prone to ranting but in future will let Ian Hislop do it for me: indeed maybe for all of us: an awful lot better! By the way: I used to be in the Met Police, which (forgive my bias) for all it's flaws still delivers an exceptional public service. Those very evident corporate and the individual misdeeds of its members pale compared to this which I think DID go well beyond the Post Office. Worst of all, this scandal shows how greed and insecurity go together and to hell with innocent peoples lives: they're plebes and expendable, we just need to cover our backsides rather than admit we're idiotic (maybe even honoured) incompetents! Moreover: I suspect if we scratched just a little bit below the surface at similar public entities and privatised services we would soon notice a bad smell. And at least coppers can be held to account: much more than ANY other public service: rightfully so: of course!
