It's funny I'm becoming as obsessed about Shifty next season as I was last season for the 180. Upgrading from flex 90 to now flex 140 expert freeride boots certainly help & inspire!

I picked 160cm for my 167cm and 130lbs so I am a little on the low end but I have been snowboarding for over 10 years so I like to fast and I ended up exactly at 160cm

Started skiing late this winter and just started getting to carving at around 10 days in and man it's a very nice feeling when you get it right.

what is the purpose of carving?
@michaelatherton82627 күн бұрын
Carving is only one technique of skiing. Limiting and antithetical to "freeskiing." And there is more than one definition of "carving." "Skidding" is just another technique (often a lot of fun, not noisy). How come if you're talking about "carving" you make no mention of "bend, "deflection" or "rebound?"
@michaelatherton82627 күн бұрын
Right, switch is not a trick; it's a style. What you're missing is an uphill carved C, which makes switch into a style.

I'm just starting to land small 180s w/my head facing downhill. I've only landed a 180 and continued skiing out of it a few times, so I like the 180 jump to 180 slopespin I'll try that tomorrow.

Typical sort of let all hang out description ski lesson, though one of the better ones. A genuine description would be like how intricate dance steps are taught. Example(not literal): reach right pole here, step onto outside left ski, step inside right ski, reach over with left pole, extend as you pass over, etc.

Teach it like a dance class.... I like it :)

I'm still in the Beginner stage of 180's, but now I'm seeing those quarter pipe opportunities everywhere on the mtn. Time to do the Small jump 180 I suppose. I do get braver as I grow. I relate to this video much better now that I'm actually doing real 180s!

Haha, love edge changing in the air. Am getting on a fair bit now, and still hit the park and the big jumps, but don't spin much if ever anymore. But going 16M kicker and hard carve in large travel and shifty to landing on the other edges and carving out never loses it's appeal 🙂
