You miss the point of Albizu Campos effort. Human rights, dignity, pride....that's what is at the core of what Campos lived by and fought for. Of course, Puerto Rico is better off as part of the US, but if we treated any state like we do Puerto Rico, people would stand up and have the same response that Campos had. He may have been wrong about being a part of the US, but he was on point about preserving the rights of Puerto Ricans to be treated like US citizens and not just some property taken from Spain. If not for the efforts of Campos and others, Puerto Rico likely would have stayed an agrarian, poor, violent place, much worse off than it is now, all while still under US control. It's not capping to state that Puerto Rico has a GDP higher than a few states or that per 1000 people, no other state in the Union has more people in the military. The US knows the jewel that is Puerto Rico and its people. In the time of Campos, anyone that didn't act like a Marin and just let the US use them as a puppet was squashed. Campos was man enough to stand up to the giant so that his people could have a better future and sacrificed his life in the process. While most people have to Google Marin to see who he was, Campos is not a footnote to those that know the history of the island.
