Yeah when the mac pros were released, apple was still using intel processors and amd graphics cards. The entry price for one of those machines was over $5,000 & they could be “specced out” to as much as around 50 grand. Many people bought mac pros for 7 grand, 10 grand, 15 grand etc., Then apple released the m1 chip and all of a sudden there were $700 dollar mac minis & $1,000 dollar macbook air laptops that were more powerful and energy efficient than than any of those mac pros. There were times I was tempted to get a mac pro, but thank goodness I didn’t. 😅

Well pointed out, Andrew. I have already sent feedback to CEntrance that they did not follow through with the tactile advantage of their interfaces to its logical conclusion. Whilst it is easy to learn and operate the knobs without looking, the same cannot be said for the tiny recessed switches - nor, as you have just pointed out, the USB ports.

The PasPort VO is bus powered, so no battery to charge. I do have to say in Michael's defence the amount of real estate available makes some of these decisions for you as we discovered when we were designing the PasPort VO, the circuit board inside it is totally nuts! Having said that the two USB C ports on the MicPort Pro can catch you out as it did me.

Wait. How about centrance correct this at the “screening” stage of the manufacturing? When they apply the labels on the enclosure? A little braille “dot” would be nice… Also, does that interface compare to the ssl favorably? Specs difference? EAR difference? I’m considering adding that to the road kit instead of hauling my id14 around ( I know, I know))

Hey David, the MicPort Pro is perfect for travel and the sound is great. It's hard to compare it to the SSL sound wise as it's hard to really hear any major difference, but for convenience it's on its own. The MicPort Pro is my go to travel interface along with the Austrian Audio CC8.

Nice work Andrew... must admit, I prefer solid state into Valve pres... which I'lll always warm for about 30mins. Also have one of those emulation mics, that you absolutely cannot run through a valve pre, at least if you want to be able to use the models correctly. Again, I personally think it is a case of "whatever is working the best for the case in point" To be honest Andrew, your would voice would still sound good talking through a Kazoo ;-)

I think it's worth noting that, according to the CEntrance unboxing broadcast, the Pportcaster which comes with the English Channel does not have an internal battery. However, you could (I think) power the whole unit with an external USB powerbank. Just a thought if you wanted to unscrew the Portcaster and use it as a field recorder.

I use iZotope RX on every raw audio track that comes into my studio. It's indispensable. That being said, I'm still happy on RX8 Advanced. I'm waiting for them to make De-plosive better with strong pops. If I can see a big fugly angry orange spot hovering around 100-200Hz on a spectrogram and brush it out, why can't they program that into their software in a way that doesn't suck the life out of everything else in those frequencies? 🤷‍♂

Nobody asks the mob about features if they don't already know the can of worms they're opening up. He has to justify his subscription model after raising prices or else why should people hang around? If he'd kept it one and done he could have stuck to the simple tried and true. Hindenburg does multitrack but suffers from stability issues. Audition is a firehose of features I'm never going to use. Kinda like paying for cable TV for the few channels you want but you're subsidizing all of the crap you don't.
@proaudiosuitepodcast

It's always a balancing act for developers to add value without overcomplicating things or veering away from what made their product great in the first place. TwistedWave's strength has always been its simplicity and efficiency, and while the new multi-track feature might raise some eyebrows, it will be interesting to see how it evolves and integrates with their overall user experience. Sometimes, less is more, and we hope they keep that at the forefront while expanding their offerings.

I have a few software programs from izotope. I’d love to be able to do some equing to get my sound like what I hear here. I don’t have any equipment to do it, I don’t think. I have a couple sound devices mixpres that I use as audio interfaces. They don’t have compression features. I have the dbx 286s and tried some settings I saw from a youtuber but I didn’t get the beefy sound he achieved. I have a few different microphones and I like their sound. Sometimes I just want that big, beefy compression sound though.

Hey ahfimiwonawun, Getting that big, beefy compression sound can be a bit of a journey, but it sounds like you're well on your way with your current setup. First off, which iZotope plugins are you using? If you've got Nectar, it’s fantastic for achieving that polished FM sound. And Ozone’s compression tools can definitely help too. One tip: instead of cranking one compressor, try sneaking up on the sound with a couple of compressors working lightly. It tends to sound much better. Pair that with some effective EQ and parallel compression, and you’re well on your way to that classic FM sound. If you want more tailored advice, check out www.justaskrobbo.com). I’m always here to help you dial in that perfect sound. Cheers, Robbo

@@proaudiosuitepodcast , Thank you for the advice. I do have Nectar and Ozone. Also RX, Neutron, Insight, Vocalsynth, Neoverb, and a few others I can’t remember. I’ve had them for years; stuff from the 7, 8 and 9 series. But because of work, I haven’t really had the time to learn how to manipulate them to get what I’m talking about here. Just applying a preset is easy, but I haven’t heard a preset yet that gives me exactly what I’m asking for here. Thank you for the link. I probably will reach out to you there. Oh and I do have the OC818 as well. I wonder if it would be any easier to get the sound I’m talking about through that polar designer app?

Buy nice or buy twice. I've bought and sold tons of gear, got caught up in the hype of one item or another, and you simply can't go wrong getting good equipment if you're really serious. The upside, if you don't continue, is that the resale value holds. Cheap gear ends up being "expensive". For myself I have the UA Arrow for travel and I leave my X4 hooked up at home. No extra power supply and two inputs are more than enough for tracking. I've even been able to run my Sphere with emulations and noise cancelling into it without tapping out the DSP. For what it is... it's not too bad. For headphones I've managed to finagle back a Rode NTH from my daughter and give her my old Sony V6. The Rode is comfy on the ears though I've heard reports that they may not hold up so well. Only time will tell on that. Microphones? That's a sticky wicket with that... So many have come and gone. At present I've gathered a 416, Neumann BCM-104, Sphere for everything I can't afford, and an Earthworks Ethos. I'm testing the AT875r for travel. Here again... we shall see. Software? Here again i'm not a musician and too much is geared towards that. On top we have simply too much complexity for someone who has long since left the IT world and doesn't want to get his "shiny stuff" syndrome stoked even more. The KISS principal.... Please. Sound treatment is definitely underated. Too much attention on the mics etc. when your "space" should be your first concern. I've manage to build a room using sound blanketsc curtains and panels and so far so good. No fancy booth but eventually that's in the works. And all of this is here in the States and I have to think about replicating this in Thailand. Oy vey!

Forgot to add... If you muck around with the C-vox you'll see that it's "learning", adjusting, with whatever is being spoken. At first it won't appear as though anything much is happening but then it settles down. Whatever secret sauce is baked into this plugin it's brain damaged simple and that alone makes it a blast to play with.

Is this something I could use to just plug and play record acoustic guitar straight to iPhone?
@proaudiosuitepodcast
@proaudiosuitepodcast 4 ай бұрын
To hook it up to an iPhone, you’re going to need a bit of gear because the iPhone doesn’t naturally shake hands with these types of mics out of the box. What you’ll need is a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (that’s assuming your iPhone doesn’t have a USB-C port, which the latest models might have). This adapter is the key connecting the MI-Creator’s USB-A plug to your iPhone’s Lightning port. Once you’ve got the adapter, it’s pretty straightforward: 1. Plug the MI-Creator into the USB Camera Adapter. 2. Connect the adapter to your iPhone. 3. The iPhone should recognize the mic, and you’re ready to roll. Just remember to select it in whatever app you’re using to record or stream audio. This setup should have you capturing top-notch audio on your iPhone, no sweat.
