My maternal grandparents met at a GM plant in Detroit in the early 40s. This video gave me a snippet into what their life might have been like at the time.

Neat to be able to see how life was back in the day. People just going about their lives not knowing that someday in the future other people via a computer screen would see them. Notice at 2:57 the guy holding and riding on the back of the bus? He likely couldn't afford the $ to ride it. These scenes are during the depression era.

Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this. It’s lovely to see how our city would have looked then. Far better than what it looks now full of rubbish, graffiti, signage and grunge.

The one thing that l notice is there are no fat assess like you see in today's American soc iety, which says something about the modern day people of the country, it's morals and lack of knowledge about the rest of the world

One of many things in this era I've noticed. Even the poor ( if they could afford it) invested in at least one nice suit of clothing. Not every guy wore a suit and tie .You see some guys in open-collar shirts, windbreaker jacket, slacks, wool newsboy cap. It wasn't always fedoras or derby/ bolar hats. Still, people made an effort to look presentable.

Is incredible how fast we have evolve, but what calls my attention is that we are nothing in time, we are brief, all of them are doing their life’s just like we are and yet they are long gone

Another great one. One question, at 1:28, are the blue and white highway signs original font or is that a new sign superimposed on the old one? I ask because the font looks modern. (I’m into fonts.) Thanks.

If you watch closely not long after the footage starts you see a fellow setting raised up getting a shoe shine at an outdoor stand between the buildings. Cool!

As the footage begins to the right you see an old standup Barber Pole spinning away. Not the later ones mounted to the building. The Barber rolled it out each morning and took it in at close of each workday. I knew an old Barber who had one in Royal Oak Mi. Fascinating footage throughout. It was a cold part of year as people warmly dressed. Love the fellas in their hats of various types.I wish the look would come back.

Oh, it's much better now with all the crime, filth, smell of pot constantly and everywhere, all the races at each other's throats, mentally ill homeless roaming the streets, lunatics attacking and killing people at random in the subway, illegal immigrants shooting cops, littering the streets begging and asking for a handout even though we've already shelled out PLENTY of our tax dollars to them... prices sky high and housing unaffordable. And most of all, it's far better with everyone staring into their devices and all walking into each other in the street without uttering even an excuse me. Oh yes, it's so much better after generations upon generations have focused on ME, ME, ME and not country, helping your neighbor, behaving civilly in society...oh how passe. It's a Communist Democrat Utopia now!
