I use a spinning lead 1oz. with a bobber off the beach or in a boat spinning lead with no bobber you can use bobber too . Just whatever size of lead you use, I use 1.5oz. and a small double hook like 1/0 2/0 set of hooks and 4 to 5 foot of leader, it all depends on the size of Herring and keep my line straight up and down you can't troll with live herring If I troll I put my Herring in a bag on ice and just use whole or cut plug herring. We are kindred spirits, Dan. I use those same Resers potato salad containers. And I have that exact same Berkeley digital scale. We can see Mount Baker off our back deck on Center Island, which I’ve told you about before. I was going to head up on Wednesday for the three day shrimp season, but then they went and closed it on us. Fine by me, saved me $350 in airplane gas! 😂 we have a lot of clams on Center Island. I didn’t know the limit for butters is 10 pounds in the shell. Thanks for that. Down here in Oregon, we have a limit of 20 clams in aggregate. They can be any combination of cockles, butters, small necks, but you can’t have more than eight gapers, which are also known as horse necks. In addition to the 20 aggregate, we can dig 36 eastern thin shells, 15 razors and 72 purple varnish clams. So if you really wanted to make a day of it, you could legally retain 143 clams. One thing we don’t have in Oregon and that’s oysters. Any oyster you might find, no matter where, is considered privately owned. Another great video, my friend!

I use those potato salad and sour cream containers for all kinds of different stuff, lunch take out leftovers all my clams, Oysters and so on. I've had my Berkeley scale for quite some time now I use it quite often. so how much is aviation fuel per gallon? Butter clams, cockle clams, little neck- manilla- steamer, varnish clams all count towards your 40 clams or 10lb whatever comes first well I always get 10lb first with butter clams and then you can have 7 horse clams in addition to the 10lb limit. And we're allowed 3 Geoduck a day also. Thanks for commenting🦪.
@jacobaccurso
@jacobaccurso 23 күн бұрын
@@dansSawfish5604 Oh, man… you are so lucky. You can dig Geoducks. We don’t have them down here. I’m reading a book right now titled, “Shell Games: Rogues, Smugglers, and the Hunt for Nature’s Bounty.” I don’t read much but this is a very interesting book about the poaching problem with Geoducks. I really do appreciate and respect the way you adhere to the rules, Dan. Like when you measure a lingcod or count up your clams. Very cool. I also use the potato salad containers and the yogurt containers for all kinds of stuff. Like cutting up little bite-size squares of watermelon and throwing those into the cooler. Or freezing clam chowder that I made up at the island the other week. I flew up to Tillamook yesterday and took on 54 gallons of gas at $6.10 per gallon! 😳

@@jacobaccurso Poaching is a big problem every were. I have a state park just south of me, me and friends watched this group of 9 people get their clams and leave for about 45 minutes they all come back with different shirts or coats on but had the same colored buckets, this happens quite often. That's outrages fuel cost $6.10 a gallon. Thanks for commenting.

Dropped my pots in 300 feet off Iceberg when it was open the first 2 seasons, then up off Yellow Island (Area 7 West). Did great, but I had 20 lbs of rebar in my pots, Dan, and the electric pot puller saves the day. Also, my bait is mixed up ahead of time with shrimp pellets I bought at Holiday Sports up in Burlington, canned mackerel, Seafood Sensations dry and wet cat food and shrimp scent by Pro Cure.
