Really peaceful video! 😌 I really loved the pictures of the Cardinal, Hummingbird, Blue Jay, and the Carolina Wren. The Night-Heron was pretty cute, too. 🥰 I also loved the side-by-side contrast of the Gallinule species. Very helpful. Plus, I didn’t know that the Armadillo is the state mammal of Texas. As I’m typing this, it’s May 21, past midnight and I came home from watching “Castle In The Sky” with a friend and my sister at the theater yesterday evening on May 20th. It was our first time seeing the movie together, and it was a really fun experience watching on the big screen once again and seeing new visual details that I haven’t noticed before watching it. Anyway, thanks for sharing! 🤗❤🐦

What a sweet story! I hope your sister and the friend enjoyed the movie as much as you love! I have only watched Totoro at a theater. You're making me want to watch Castle in the Sky again! Speaking of which, I will be seeing Joe Hisaishi + orchestra soon on his world tour (in your neck of the woods)! I'm so excited! 🎼 And yes ma'am, armadillo is the state 'small' mammal! The regular size mammal is the Texas longhorn. 🐂 Funny how they have two mammals! As for birds, there's only one state bird, which is the Mockingbird! 🐦

Yes, indeed! I initially thought it was the result of egg dumping ("brood parasitism") by a female Black-bellied Whistling Ducks nearby but I learned this species can produce up to 22 eggs per clutch: txtbba.tamu.edu/species-accounts/black-bellied-whistling-duck/! Amazing!

Aw, the ducklings are so cute! They remind me of the Canada Goose goslings I saw on Friday. I call them fluffy, walking tennis balls with wings. 🎾🪽🐥🥰 Also, the Great-Tailed Grackles are singing and calling up a storm. 😄 I remember seeing a comment that said the Great-Tailed Grackle should be Texas’ state bird (I guess because there’s always flocks of them in big box store parking lots and such. 😆 Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I agree on both! I have not seen Canada Goose goslings but they are all truly the "fluffy" as you describe! I have seen Egyptian Goose goslings and they're "fluffy" as well as the Muscovy Duck ducklings! Muscovy Duck ducklings are all-yellow "fluffy"! You're right about the Great-tailed Grackles in Houston that congregate just about every major intersections where gas stations are located, as well as restaurants with outdoor dining areas. I have seen as many as a few hundreds of them at a nature reserve one evening! Thank you for your friendly and entertaining feedback, as always! 😉🐥

My dad texted me the other day to invite me to his house for a barbecue. "We'll have to barbecue in the driveway," he said. When I inquired as to why, he told me that some bluebirds moved into his birdhouse earlier this year, and their babies were in the box. He didn't want to disturb them. He texted me yesterday to let me know that we will be barbecuing in the back yard. The babies fledged yesterday! The box is empty!

What a sweet story! Thank you for sharing it with me. I love it when humans respect wildlife like how your father does and honor. When we respect them, they respect us back and they stay near us. I would like to believe that. Tell your father to watch out for those bluebirds returning to that same box next Spring as they have the most sophisticated GPS (and memories!) in their head and remember exactly where to come back to for their own prosperity for years to come! 🐦

@@birdsandbeyond4551 I'll tell him! He'll definitely be excited if they return next year. Earlier this spring, he was disappointed when they disappeared after they visited his box a few times. I told him to be patient, and that if they liked what they saw, they would be back. Sure enough, they did, and he was thrilled. I got to show him his first pileated woodpecker last year, and he loved seeing the red-shouldered hawks and their babies in the empty lot behind our house. I'm taking him to the rookery next week. I think he's really going to like it.

I agree! I worry about them every time we have stormy weather down here but somehow I see the eggs hatch and they all seem to stay intact. Amazing!

Haha, at first, from the distance, I thought I found a few rare birds with red/white colors and became really excited. Can you imagine squirrels stealing those flags from the nearby yards owned by humans and carrying them all the way up to their nest on that pine tree? I love it! 🇺🇸🐿

Wishing you luck to see Wood Ducks in the future! I still remember the first time I saw them a few years ago. I heard some commotion in the wooded area and I saw a pair mating. At that time, I didn't even know those were Wood Ducks until I came home and researched them.
