lots of comments on this review and others that say the Bluetooth sound quality and connectivity (I-Phone) is poor to average at best. Streaming is becoming so popular that I would hope for better. I'm going to give these a try (trail) but looks like I may try the Phonak Audeo Infino. I wonder why people get a HA that has Aurcast when it will not be around for years, and the average HA only last a few years. That being the case it may be smarter to just wait it out till Aurcast hits mainstream.
@hearingandbalancedoctors32754 күн бұрын
@denniswhite5440 Thanks for your comment. The connectivity to the iPhone with the Nexia is as good or better than any other hearing aid. But, yes, the Bluetooth sound quality is sub-par. The best way to address this is to have your audiologist create a music program for you with the low and mid frequencies significantly increased. You may also want to manually increase the low frequencies and decrease the high frequencies further in the Smart3D app. Use this program to stream music and it will sound MUCH better. The Phonak Infinio (especially the "sphere" model) is a great hearing aid. It literally came out two days ago. I have been wearing it ever since and am very impressed. The only drawbacks are the size (it's quite large) and the price (also large). You can expect a review video soon.

You accidentally made the video twice in the same video if you didn't catch that. I wish you had covered over-the-counter and specialty protection. I have a lot of the former but now I use Eargasm and the advantage is they have a very high-quality sound. But I would be very interested in purchasing Professional level devices because I go to a lot of concerts and I would like to protection and it would be the best if it supported my hearing prescription. Concerts where they don't blast the sound and some great feeders are that way, I can hear so much better with my hearing aids. I have a friend who also has the money to spend but never knows where the heck to get high-quality hearing protection that allows music.

@myfavoritesongdfilip Try turning your affected ear to the ground and kicking your leg. Sometimes that can jar any trapped water loose. It's also possible you have wax that the water is trapped behind. If that's the case, you'll need to get the wax removed (at an audiologist or ENT). Good luck!

@@DonAlderOfficial hearing aids have always been designed primarily for speech understanding. Historically, they have not been great for music. Most hearing aids will have the ability to add a music program (that usually has increased bass and a more linear or analog sound). Was looking forward to this review, but... don't care about streaming, don't care about the charger, don't care about the size, don't care about the button. I care about sound quality, which was not mentioned, despite you going through sound quality in your Phonak video. Missed a bit, eh? I've heard many reviews of ReSound hearing aids sound being "sharp". Could you elaborate please? Currently been wearing Unitron for 2 years, looking to upgrade.
@hearingandbalancedoctors32752 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The sound quality of the Nexia is very good. ReSound hearing aids in general do have a very "sharp" sound, however. Some people love it (it sounds crisp and clear), while others think it's too harsh. This comes from the fact that ReSound does not shy away from high frequency gain like many manufacturers do. ReSound's proprietary fitting algorithm favors audibility over comfort and ReSound also does a better job amplifying at 8 kHz than most manufacturers. The sharp sound is also due to ReSound using very fast time constants. This results in a very clear, but almost harsh sound. The new Nexia hearing aid also performs better in background noise than almost all other hearing aids. Hearing in background noise is never perfect, but the Nexia uses beam-forming directional microphones that allow for a narrow beam of amplification resulting in a better signal to noise ratio, and ultimately better hearing. This is especially evident in the 7 and 9 level technology. Bottom line: the sound quality is excellent. Sometimes people prefer the sound processing algorithms of one company over another (some people just really like Oticon's slow time constants for example) but I would argue that the sound quality of the Nexia is among the top two or three in the whole industry. Cheers! Hope that helps!

I've just been trialing a hearing aid, and it really irritated my ears. The whole ear felt like it was burning, even after changing for a smaller earpiece, I had to take it out after wearing for 3 hours. the ear piece looked like a flower on a post. Do you know if ear bud like the ones in your video are less irritating? Or is there another type? I generally were Apple buds for several hours, even overnight without too much trouble, but wouldn't be able to tolerate them for 12 hours, I don't think.
@hearingandbalancedoctors32752 ай бұрын
I'm sorry it's been irritating! That's not very common, but it happens occasionally. And there are lots of different types of ear buds your audiologist could try with you. One example, that usually fits really well, would be a custom-made ear mold. I'd recommend returning to your audiologist and discussing options. Good luck!

What is the difference between resound and BelTone?
@hearingandbalancedoctors32752 ай бұрын
Great question. BelTone is a large hearing aid sales group. They use ReSound hearing aids, but private label them as BelTone. Essentially, BelTone hearing aids are ReSound hearing aids. Probably even more important than the hearing aid you choose is the provider you choose. I would recommend someone with the credentials "AuD" (Doctor of Audiology). Often, the big sales groups like BelTone or Miracle Ear do not employ doctors. You can also ask friends or your primary care doctor for recommendations for good doctors. Hope that helps!

@TheShadowIG2 ай бұрын
I'm nee to hearing aids and been wearing them since January and noisy places like restaurants/bars are not great with them. Depending on the place, I may just take them off completely since I'd be able to focus and hear the person I'm talking to instead of hearing everything but them. I'm also starting to have issues with them now where one or both just go really low on sound, and every sound goes faint. It's getting to the point where I hear better without them on. Might just be a dud, but I'm going back in to have them look at them. For 7k, I hoped to have much better hearing and working hearing aids but so far, it's been really frustrating for almost 6 months.

It's extraordinary that Drs Whitaker and Luekenga are publishing a video on hearing loss and clarity with such bad quality sound, especially since it can be corrected by a $15 tie clip mic. The mic that's picking up their speech is presumably on the video recorder and it's picking up numerous echoes from the room.

Is the battery audiologist-replaceable? If not, is that a major downside to consider? My audiologist is recommending Nexia BiCROS for my SSD. Great review, thanks!
@hearingandbalancedoctors32753 ай бұрын
No, the battery is not replaceable by the audiologist. It needs to be sent to the manufacturer to replace it. My understanding is that they break the water resistant seal when they replace the battery and it must be resealed by the manufacturer. Fortunately, though, our experience is that these batteries last for about 4 years. So it may need to be replaced one time in the life of the hearing aid.

Can you explain the difference between Nexia and Jabra pro 20? Why would I pay $4,000 more for the Nexia over the Jabra?
@hearingandbalancedoctors32753 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! The Jabra Pro 20 is the Coscto model GN product. GN owns both ReSound and Jabra and historically GN has put one model in Costco. The Costco product is locked to audiologists and cannot be programmed or adjusted outside of a Costco. Because of this, the detailed technical specs are unknown to audiologists. Typically, however, the product itself is good. It is usually a de-featured version of ReSound's latest product. The biggest difference is where a patient would rather seek care. Typically, Costco hearing aids can be a good idea for someone who is price conscious and not looking for a lot of professional service. The quality of care and competence of providers can vary greatly across Costcos. Very seldom are doctors of audiology practicing at Costco. For those seeking "gold standard" care (a comprehensive audiologic evaluation, hearing aid fitting including Real Ear measures, aural rehabilitation, tinnitus management, and continuing follow up care) going to a doctor of audiology might make sense. The actual hearing aid is a notch above the Costco product, but most of the cost difference comes from the level of professional care. Bottom line: both are good options. The decision usually depends upon what level of professional care the patient wants or needs.
@mrc21652 ай бұрын
It's the same aid. Don't listen to these guys, they don't know squat about Costco aids. They are not locked at all. I self program and had both the Resound One and the Jabra Pro. There were exactly the same. The only difference being the tinnitus option isn't a default. Just visit HearingTracker and in the forum section you can read how real audiologist's easily adjust Costco aids. There are so many of us that self program that there are whole forum threads just on that topic and no Costco aid has been locked for well over 5 years. These guys are outdated

Please note, this is a rather simplified description of frequency coding based on a concept called "rate coding." At higher frequencies (i.e., > ~1 kHz), multiple auditory nerve fibers must simultaneously contribute to the coding of frequency, because a single auditory nerve fiber cannot do it alone ("teamwork makes the dream work!"). The more commonly described mechanism underlying frequency coding is the tonotopically based "place theory".
