Thank you. I just went and tried these...it was strangely...pleasant? Also, Dr. Matthew, why is the mouthpiece on your headjoint black?
@PracticeFlute20 күн бұрын
Playing the flute should be enjoyable, So I'm glad these feel pleasant. The lip plate on that flute is made of granadilla wood.

I'm frustrated not just with high E, but starting a passage, a really beautiful passage, that begins with high E... I do harmonics, long tones, and intervals. However I had never heard of bell tones, whistle tones, and undertone harmonics. Also, the E-B , becoming ACE......okay... thank you for some new practices.

Found your Pitch bend exercise very useful. I've been revamping a lot of my note approach of late and have been really focusing on bending down. Two questions if I may: What are some of the notes that YOU find have the most variation to work with. And could you give me an idea of how far you pull out your head joint? (mm or 1/16ths) TIA.
@PracticeFlute20 күн бұрын
I pull out about 1/4" on most flutes. It's hard to bend the extreme upper register down because I already need to bring them down usually. But as far bringing down the quarter tone or so to meet my pitch goals, the rest are about the same.

I saw English Flautist, Adam Walker, in concert a year ago. He started his solo part of the concert, with these very interesting sound effects, sort of like a combination of these two effects.

Extended techniques are pretty common in modern repertoire. They're starting to emerge in more orchestra and wind ensemble pieces, too.

@@PracticeFlute It was definitely a more "abstract" piece. I totally loved it. I'm very "old school" in that I love Flute in Classical/Orchestral music. I Hate modern beatboxing Flute playing. It's just not my thing, that's all.

Great. Your Content is fantastic, But your video optimization section area is not perfectly up to date. Out of 100 that’s score 0, That’s why your video is not reaching out to people, and you have very few subscribers, views , likes, watch time and comments. Matthew, how do you find the wooden lip plate affects the sound and tone vs a metal lip plate?
@PracticeFlute5 ай бұрын
I don't tend to give the flute itself as much credit for the sound as many other flute players. When I picked this flute, I was comparing it against the silver lip with 14k riser. It just felt right. So I picked it.
