It seems to be taking over the world. I live in a small German town, and just now (July 2024), I was sitting on my front porch late in the evening, and heard some guy playing the melody off in the distance on (I think) a trombone! It has an otherworldly echo type sound to it.

It's one of those songs that I can listen to a million times and never get tired of. I first heard it in Stephen King's The Stand series and I really like it to this day. The extended versions are great. Due to the context in which I heard it and the plot of the book, I cannot help but relate it to a post-apocalyptic scenario, which also has similarities with what was experienced in 2020.

I love this song and honestly cannot believe how underrated it is. On the eve of its 20th birthday, I’d argue it is one of the top 150 country songs ever written. Just a phenomenal account of a special and rare moment at the end of a chapter in this young man’s life. You can feel the crossroads this person is at as he wraps up a temporary but meaningful thing that can’t last into the realities of school, September, etc. I connected with this as a mid 20-something and now, 20 years on, I appreciate it in a different, if not more powerful way. Scooter nailed this and it should be celebrated for the spectacle of lyrical storytelling it is.
