I know you people watching all these type repairs have some EBay gift cards. Don't throw them all the way. I makes me a packrat, but I get things with pieces of plastic look like things I might never find when looking for it.

I was concerned that the motor you are getting the armature from you didn't identify. I have a E-8 that needs the same treatment, but I don't have the brush holders, they were not left with the motor. I have a small lathe, and some brass rod. I should be able to make them. I will get done with a $300 Atlas 40 year or more almost new old stock, right?

What size speaker did you use?
@watchtrainsnow10994 күн бұрын
I used all old junk stuff. I hooked up the RCA to an old stereo amp. I have a set of marants speaker (they are good quality, but 30 years old). And that works. I’m on the search for a real sub.
@irrationaltimer49014 күн бұрын
@@watchtrainsnow1099 If you have the Marantz that were made in USA search to more. It sounds like you are playing it thru your receiver/amp. The speakers you are using are probable a two or three way system ...Tweeter, mid, Woofer which will give way better sound then just a sub woofer that has a crossover @ say 100hz....just the low stuff. The Marantz are prob 50hz to like 15Khz. It does sound great even thru your phone. Can only imagine what it sounds like in person. Enjoy !

Another reason for the Kapton tape is recommended is the fact that it tends to be thinner then normal electrical tape and electrical tape tends to be very sticky! I bought a few Kato P42's about a year ago, a similar install to the F7 but infamous for how temperamental it can be, that were sold as non runners. The reason they did not run was that their former owner used electrical tape to insolated the motor pickups form the main power pickup strips, like the ones you insolated with Kapton in this video. The thickness of the tape and or its stickiness, caused the main power strips to move ever so slightly, when the board was installed, causing the motor pickups to short the decoders and turn them into the non runners I bought. Also, Kapton is the brand name not actually the name of the tape it self. sehr gut video!

I was unaware of the improvements made after the very first model. I bought a bunch of them used off and on usually for around $5 and they were a source of great frustration. They could also be converted to Nn3 with some careful filing. But they still had trouble with turnouts, even ones carefully handlaid. I worked and worked on them because in those days they were the nearest thing available for use as an early logging engine. W Alsdorf
