Are you supposed to grease your bearings? I noticed they weren’t greased before placing them in hub
@mikemike75236 күн бұрын
Hey! they are usually sealed bearings, as they have the plastic seal either side to keep water out, & the factory grease in.. That is enough grease to normally last their life under normal conditions.. Hope that helps! Ride hard! 😃😃😃

Excellent and informative video Mike. Have just cleaned-up and re-fitted the very-clogged head of my over-heating 1986 40HP 2-stroke Yamaha - very similar design to your own. Two experienced local outboard mechanics wouldn't touch it. Only problem now is I didn't put enough gasket-cement around where the spark-plugs screw in, so a little water is weeping out past the thin gasket around the plug holes. I'll try sealing from the outside, and if that doesn't work I'll remove the head again and do a better job on the gaskets. Doing the work yourself is definitely the way to go. Vids like yours are priceless to amateurs like me. Many thanks.

I am getting so sick of my VE Clubsport R8. Check engine every 6 months. Most the time it's just the dumb sacrificial charging system let the battery get too low for a few seconds so it beeps and shuts off esp/stability... Now this time for me it says it's misfire cylinder 6 on my OBD2 thing (but might be just the battery thing again since it's intermittent). If I could ever go more than 6 months without check engine bullshit I would love this car.
@mikemike752328 күн бұрын
Hi! Yes the warnings can be frustrating hey! I think that if it brought up the misfire cylinder 6, then it would have been misfiring.. even if only minimal times, but could be worth swapping the plug, lead & coil over to say cylinder 1, & see if it brings up misfire code again later but now on cylinder 1... an easy fix to rule out which component is failing.. Hope that helps! 😃😃😃
@DoublebrutalCS228 күн бұрын
@@mikemike7523 Yeah I just drove the car for 2 hours today with 0 check engine light and 0 misfires on the OBD2 (was plugged in the whole time)... I am once again convinced that low battery caused a false misfire report :\ Really don't wanna waste money on plugs and leads for nothing.

Did you need 1 gasket for this job or 2? Did you just use the gasket sealer on one of the faces? Doing mine this week, any advice appreciated
@mikemike7523Ай бұрын
Hi! there area numerous gaskets to do this job, which is why the full engine rebuild gasket kit is best cheapest option to get all gaskets... i never use any sealant on gaskets.. Im sure most mechanics would agree, that cleaning & preparing the surfaces with wax/grease remover & paying close attention to that cleanliness, is the most important thing... the gaskets are designed to seal well when surfaces are clean. Hope this helps! 😃

Mine has a strange idling problem. It revs back and forth from 750-500rpm without rough working. Simply switches like that every 8-10 seconds. Anyone know what could that be?
@mikemike7523Ай бұрын
Hi! Ok, well 500-750Rpm is way too low, so there is some issue, but it could be a thousand reasons for low idle.. You'll need to get it scanned & find out why... Hope that helps! 😃
@mrcha84Ай бұрын
@@mikemike7523 There are no fault codes, but i noticed that the "problem" only occurs when i turn the AC on. It just feels like the engine is switching form low to higher idle but with no unpleasant shakes or stalling...
@mikemike7523Ай бұрын
@@mrcha84 Yes 500Rpm still seems a bit too low, but as for the Air Con, the car varies the Rpm when the air is turned on as the AC compressor takes a bit of power to drive, & takes power out of the motor as it kicks in.. So the car increases the Rpm to help keep it idling well while the AC compressor continues to kick in & out as it functions.. once the AC system has built up enough pressure to cool, the compressor is shut off, & idling will drop back down.. That keeps happening every minute or 2 as the AC keeps pressurising its system.. Hope that helps 😃

I believe that you showed only part of the main jet. It is slightly larger and longer than the idle jet. It comes out, and there are smaller openings that can be cleaned.
@mikemike7523Ай бұрын
hi, no the video clearly shows the main jet & then also the pilot jet that is fitted under the rubber grommet... The pilot jet is the longer jet with fine holes, it has a very fine centre hole. Main Jet has a very large hole (in comparison to the idle/pilot jet) to deliver far more fuel from around half throttle up to full revs. Hope this helps 😃

Hey i just cleaned my fuel injector and reinstalled it. Had to take the throttle apart for that. When i turned my car on after that, it runs ok for 3sec then gets very shaky after that to the point where you can hear belt screech. The 2nd day, j reinstalled everything again and unplugged the negative for a day, this time the car ran good for 10sec before it idle rough again. Im thinking its throttle or ecu reset required. Any ideas?
@mikemike75232 ай бұрын
Hi Did you use a professional injector clean process at a mechanics? that is they fit your injector in their injector machine that measures is flow output, then do a pro clean process, then recheck how the flow output has changed once cleaned? If not, your process may be a bit hit & miss, or even make it worse... Yes as you've now changed things, it's probably best & in need to have it scanned & run live diagostics to nail down what is actually incorrect... Thanks! Hope that helps, 😃
@st4r4442 ай бұрын
@mikemike7523 nah I didn't do that. I just used cleaning car tool and sprayed. I was thinking maybe my car is trying to relearn the idle process and the ecu has to be reset?

Killer vid! My Yamaha 40tlrc has some rough idle issues and has trouble going from idle to midrange rpm smoothly, do you think that could be carb related? Plugs are new and engine is in great shape
@mikemike75232 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for that! Yes it def could be the carbs, but could still be electrical, possible coils.. At least you ruled out plugs.. Carbs do cause issues as the pilot (idle) jets are very fine & can block easily with old stale fuel that turns to sludge in the carby bowls especially if left for a fair while between runs.. Be sure to check all air jets too as you go (as shown in the video) as they can block too.. you may have 1 blocked jet, or even find a couple.. It's always a good feeling when you find the culprit! The 2nd & 3rd carb/cylinder will help cover the failing one, but as you said, it still doesn't run smooth like you know it should.. Hope you find it, & get a nice smooth rev range again! 😃😃😃

Thanks for this video! I have a '91 looks exactly like this with the same symptoms. One thing you led me to is checking that oil is coming in from the above ports. When I had it opened up last week I don't recall seeing a flow of oil from there.
@mikemike75232 ай бұрын
Hey! yes the oil flow is minimal until you really open up the revs... there is adjustment on the oil delivery arm etc.. also be sure the oil levers etc havn't been bumped/knocked off & not driving from the throttle levers.. that can happen easily too.. Hope that helps! 😃😃😃

Nice video, thank you. Question ; Yamaha 250 ox 66. When I get back to the dock and hook up a hose to the engine flush hose , if the thermostats are closed , where does the water go ? which part of the engine is not getting fresh water to? thanks
@mikemike75234 ай бұрын
Hi! Generally if it's still cold & thermostats are still closed, or they are faulty & not opening, it wont cycle the water in the blocks, so the water can overheat the engine then... The water will still always flow out the tell tale outlet.. Don't be deceived in thinking it is operating cooling water through engine, just because it flows out the tell tale visible outlet/spout... this is why full inspection & removal of heads is important if you suspect a problem internally like my video shows.. Hope that helps! 😃😃😃

I’ve got an issue with my yammy 2 stroke where it runs well at idle, runs well at a decent clip but in a no-wake low speed put about it sounds like it’s running on 3 of 4 cylinders (yam 115 two stroke) think it could be a clogged jet? Going to dive into it!
@mikemike75234 ай бұрын
Hey! Pin pointing the issue makes life easier! So at lower revs the 4 cylinders can mask a fault in a cylinder... I pull the plug leads off one at a time to try find the cylinder where no change happens when lead is removed.. if u can pin point that cylinder, even at slightly higher revs like you said, It can make it easier to go straight to that carby, or at least pay close attention to that one when cleaning them all.. you may also have a bad plug, they can give that same type fault at different revs.. or even coil... but the removing lead trick will help diagnose them too.. you can swap say the faulty cylinder 1 plug with cylinder 2, see if the fault moves to the 2nd cylinder when pulling the lead off again.. then if no change, swap the coil in the same way, see if the fault moves to cylinder 2.. That helps out find exactly which part is failing rather than just replace parts like all the plugs at once. (Or all coils)... you still may have the issue after spending $200 that way! Hope all this helps! Let me know when you find the culprit! (Carby or electrical!) Many thanks for watching!! 😃😃😃
