In cooking over candles, perhaps too much emphasis is put on how long it takes. When the electric or gas is not available, and candles are what you are "doing" to keep your food cooked/warmed, you must think in terms of an all-day effort. Putting food on an hour or two hours ahead of time is what you must do in order to have the food ready by the next meal. Cooking over candles is like a slow cooker, which if you cannot get outside to cook on your grill because of driving rain or snow, candles are priceless. But having a good stock of them is crucial, as is keeping the pan down over the flame as close as possible with as little wind as you can. I often wonder where all this raw food is coming from, however, with the electric off and nowhere to store raw foods, unless you live in cold climates. Down here in Florida, we're out of luck with no electric. I lived out of cans for six days with nothing to cook on. This was before I read about cooking over candles. Learning how to build a rocket stove or similar that will burn brush/leaves/twigs out of bricks is also good.
