I remember a friend of mine told me that Dixie Square Mall was used in the Blues Brothers movie and around 2001 I came to explore but could not get in. There were cops busting people in like three areas of the mall. I came back six months later with my cousin and his friend and we got in this time. The mall was in much better shape in 2001 than seen in your video 2009. The Montgomery Ward building was still intact and Jc Penney’s second floor was complete. That second floor started collapsing around 2004 and by 2009, a large portion of it collapsed along with the holes in the roof opening up more. I’m glad to have come to explore Dixie Square Mall at least ten times before it got demolished. I wish I took pictures and videos of it but I still remember it in detail. Thankfully with your videos and other pictures on the internet, Dixie Square will live on forever.

Very, very excellent video Jon!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ You video sums up the scope of this mall. Besides we all know the history or this mall so it's nice to just see a mall video and hearvno commentary. Because not not many KZfaqrs can only get to explore a place once and to explore this mall again and just make it feel like you're there exploring it yourself it's an awesome vide lomand pictures too!!! Me being a KZfaq Urban Explorer not a physical one I will go backnover this video of this mall again after they demolish the building. I'm not free the area I'm from Illinois and I lived in Rockford for only 17 years and never new about this mall to my neighbors to the north of me until I started to go exploring here on KZfaq. Again very, very excellent and amazing job theses videos you did of North Ridge Mall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️

Great video!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ I don't remember when I lived in Elgin, Illinois if I ever drove down this this mall to visit it. Since I'm in Rockford, Illinois I couldn't get to see this last days/day of this mall because of car problems and my husband's change of is schedule of him working 4 days of the week from 7:00pm to 7:00am but it's so sad to know another well known mall in my home state of Illinois is closing up just so sad. ☹️☹️☹️

This walkthrough was filmed by a guy named Eddie and originally shared by the long-defunct MallHistory.com website, circa early-2004. Pre-KZfaq era... you had to download video files to watch them. Took 20 years to find it again in the Internet Archive.

I worked there in the factory from 1994-2000. to the left of the stairs was the main isle. The CNC lathes were also in that area and going east. I mainly worked on the large pain line machine, on the south or parking lot side of the building. They closed that building that became assembly in 1982, then reopened it in 1994, they were clearing it out at the time of the bankruptcy, at that point I was in Plant 2 in Die Cast.

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your passion for this beloved, beautiful mall. In my opinion, it is by far one of the most beautifully designed, aesthetically pleasing mall I’ve ever seen. It will always be remembered by its phenomenal architecture. So impressive and breathtaking. This mall is such a work of art. I’m hoping the community will actively try to preserve the architecture and aesthetics for the planned redevelopment project. Why demolish and rebuild a new one when there is an almost perfectly functional building that has minimal damage to it. The building structure itself is well maintained. I agree with one of the comments. It’s such a waste of a good building to just demolish it to pieces. I’m so emotionally outraged by this. And the thing is I don’t live in the area. But I actually care about this mall because it is such a beautiful work of art and all the hard work and materials that was put in to create such a beautiful structure for the community. I hate to see it go to waste. The architect who designed this mall should be commended and remembered for his vision and creativity. Again thank you for sharing.

We have become such a wasteful society. Places like this should be the center of a community.

Totally agree!! It’s wasteful to demolish this beautiful work of art, aesthetically pleasing mall down. The architecture is so phenomenal that it should be preserved for historical and architectural significance. A cultural icon for Bloomingdale community. Never understand the need for demolishing this building when it can be repurposed. I’m just feeling all glum right now. Praying they repurpose this building as a community center or multi purpose type center like they’ve done to other dead malls in other parts of America. Let’s hope they do the right thing. And it’s not all about money but what the community needs. To me demolishing the mall is disservice the Stratford Square Mall and the community. But what do I know? It’s what’s in my heart.

Update: in 2024 ownership of the Northridge Mall property was secured by the City of Milwaukee through tax foreclosure. The former Boston Store anchor, long-owned by the city, is now under demolition, with the rest of the mall slated to follow later this year.
