Love the rock story. ha ha. Also did not know Jimmy's wife Jane, went out and found Diesel. Although to be fair, I think Diesel had already had some radio hits with Johnny Diesel and The Injectors so he may not have been totally unknown by the time she found him. I think in that concert footage it had their son or daughter side stage air playing a guitar. Must have been Jackie or Mahalia. Jackie eventually became a drummer and Mahalia a singer. Often see Jackie drumming in Jimmy's band now but seen some footage where he was doing it for some Rose Tatoo concert too.

GIANTS! Legends! The Sunnyboys could strip the wallpaper from any room with just the sweat from the crowd. They freakin' ROCKED.The sound on this does not do the justice. Try; "Sunnyboys - LIVE 1982 + Flaming Hands - LIVE 1982" at this forum for the best live sound. Cheers.

Glad to see more people discovering The Cat Empire. A brilliant band of accomplished musicians, making utterly joyous music full of groove and warmth. As others have suggested, seek out "The Chariot" (the live video from The Roundhouse in London is magic) but you can't go wrong. Days Like These, The Car Song, The Rhythm, and one of my favourite grooves, "One, Four, Five"

I love their Wine Song. It’s so evocative of just sinking into the seasons of drought, of cracked soil and bushfires. You prepare your best, then just get on, having fun when you can. Enjoying cool changes, the ecstasy of rain.

What I love about your channel Greg is experiencing our Aussie music through the eyes of someone who is new to it. I grew up through the pub band scene in Melbourne and saw most of the bands you play live throughout their careers, seeing them on Countdown and on the awards shows… it is a delight watching them through your eyes with your insights. Keep it up… I check in daily to your channel to see your next adventures into the world of the Aussie pub bands… I haven’t heard The Sunnyboys for decades.. thanks.. that clip reminded me of another band I loved live The Sports … check out “who listens to the radio” & “strangers on a train” … “walk in the room” same pub band style.. great guitar, piano and solid catchy melodies. ❤

I love this song. It is an Aussie movie called “The Sapphires” which is based on a true story about an Aboriginal group who won a music contest to sing for the American troops in Vietnam. It features an Australian singer, Jessica Mauboy. I own and love the movie and soundtrack. Here is Jess kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMd2nqems9jQdqs.htmlsi=mn-69qJvm8Dm0tZ7 I love this music even if it was before my time.

Yep, that's Melbourne, filmed outside Flinder's St railway station (that's the big Victorian building they showed. There's a friendly rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne... I'm a Sydney girl, but I have always loved going down to Melbourne.

They were such a fun band to see live... So many people on stage, and usually had a couple of ring ins hop on stage with them for a song or two. I only ever saw them in small venues, but this looks like a party!

These guys were always really solid. They were big live, but only had this and one other song that got airplay. It wasn't unusual back then for bands to have a big following at their gigs, but not be played on the radio. When jjj, the national youth radio network kicked off, things changed a bit. The Sunnyboys did a reunion tour last year that I missed unfortunately, but they are still great apparently. A sunnyboy was a kind of frozen thing... They were triangle shaped, and every summer I wish they still existed.

It's a bit deeper than basic. I used to play pool with these guys before they signed up to Mushroom records. Singer Jeremy was a troubled guy, and thankfully he married a nurse after years of being in the wilderness. Check out ''The Sunnyboy Official Trailer 1 (2013) - Documentary HD'' or the whole documentary ''The Sunnyboy (2013 documentary). There's a lot of good songs on their first three albums. One listen to ''Alone With You'' is not enough.

Hi Greg, if you think that this sounds pop , it’s because it is…. This song is from the album EAST….. which if they weren’t already…. Made Cold Chisel BIG….. right around Australia…..and some of these songs are radio staples too this day…… the follow up Album Circus Animals was Chisels Rock Album…. Equally as good.

I’m glad you didn’t pretend not to know this song because I might have called shenanigans on ya. Cool video. I guess the Quinn in this song refers to the actor Anthony Quinn, but when I was a kid in California there was some race car driver guy named Quinn and whenever he’d come out of the pit they’d play his song and everyone would go insane. That’s where I first heard it.

I was at this Countdown Awards night and saw it happen. We were all laughing at Cold Chisel because it looked ridiculous. There were fabricated letters of complaint that Molly read out on the show the following week - all bullshit. Countdown continued to champion them years after this event.
