I just wonder how much 308 ammo costs these days. I have a Winchester m100 semi auto rifle in 308. I have ammo for it but would like more. I’m pretty afraid to know what it costs now!

I969, I was 17 the first time I fired the M-60. It was the high point in my young life. I thought it was the best thing ever. It was heavy, but lord could it lay down some firepower.

The only thing not to like about the M60 is being number 2 on the gun, get to carry the extra ammo, spare barrel and cleaning kit along with you're own personal weapon and ammo, get to help clean it not not shoot it. After watching a couple of war movies my wife asked me why the 60 gunners say "die mother fucker, die mother fucker" she thought I was joking when I told her that's the timing to control the busrts

I used the model D for 12 months in 1970-71... Not every day, but multiple times a week. Properly maintained it is a reliable weapon. I always had an extra barrel with me. Also carried with me an M16 with 10 magazines. Always have a backup.

Machine gunners dont carry a rifle along with their machinegun. At most they carry an additional sidearm like a pistol, oftentimes not even that.

Six to nine round burst, six to nine round burst. It’s a matter of timing, you can hear when it is done correctly. More advanced technique is “barking machine guns” when you have two pigs. The most basic stuff is difficult or impossible for these civilian gunners. Thanks for the video.

I guess the designers had to balance rate of fire with ammunition consumption (?) The problem with 'Hitler's buzzsaw/MG 42 was that the gunners depleted their ammo after just a few squeezes of its terrifying trigger!

I think it was purposefully designed to have a lower cyclic rate of fire to keep it controllable during sustained automatic fire since it was designed to also fire from the shoulder, also prevents overheating as well as preventing wasting of ammo due to rapid depletion of ammunition which was a problem with the MG42 it was partially based on.

Shooting it was one thing, feeding it was another. Feeding that gun without ear plugs will destroy your hearing. In 1969 the army didn’t issue my infantry AIT class ear plugs. We paid the price for that oversight.
