What would be a good 3rd ETF to compliment QQQ and SCHD that doesn't overlap them?
@Know_Your_Money
@Know_Your_Money 2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question! It probably depends on what you want to do with a 3rd ETF. If you wanted an investment that was safe with a nice dividend yield and 0% overlap, ANGL would make sense. If you wanted another more aggressive ETF that didn't have a lot of overlap with QQQ & SCHD, COWZ may make sense. COWZ has 2% overlap with QQQ & 19% overlap with SCHD. Hope that helps.

Seems like a false choice to me, because these three ETFs serve different investor goals. QQQ is the fastest growing (at least for the last 10 years), VOO is the most diversified, and SCHD is the best passive dividend payer. One is better than the others only to the extent that it best matches the investor’s goal.

I invested in VOO recently in my Wealthfront account. Determining the "best" overall option among SCHD, QQQ, and VOO depends on your investment goals, risk tolerance, and preferences. Here's a summary of each ETF's key features: SCHD (Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF): Tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index. Low expense ratio of 0.06% and a high dividend yield of 3.43%. Invests in dividend-paying companies, providing income. Less overlap with QQQ and VOO, offering diversification. Suitable for income-oriented investors seeking stability and dividends. QQQ (Invesco QQQ Trust): Tracks the NASDAQ 100 Index, heavily focused on technology. Higher expense ratio of 0.20% but historically strong performance. Offers exposure to leading technology companies. Significant overlap with VOO, which may lead to sector concentration. Suitable for growth-oriented investors with a higher risk tolerance. VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF): Tracks the S&P 500 Index, providing broad market exposure. Very low expense ratio of 0.03% and a moderate dividend yield of 1.35%. Diversified across various sectors but heavily weighted in technology. Significant overlap with QQQ, which could lead to sector concentration. Suitable for long-term investors seeking broad market exposure with low fees. Based on historical performance, QQQ has outperformed both VOO and SCHD over the last 10 years. However, past performance is not indicative of future results, and each ETF has its own benefits and drawbacks. For a balanced approach, you might consider a combination of SCHD and either QQQ or VOO to balance dividend income and growth potential while minimizing overlap. Consulting with a financial advisor can help tailor an investment strategy that aligns with your financial goals and risk tolerance.

Owning physical gold/silver is tax exempt in several states, that alone makes it unique to own. Gold and silver should be replacing a small percentage of cash savings. Think of gold as a currency exchange, you're not "buying" gold, it's simply an exchange of forms of money. Governments are bankrupt beyond comprehension and the debasement of your currency will accelerate going forward. Government bonds are no longer a store of value due to the exponential growth of debt issuance. Gold ETF's have maybe 1 ounce of real gold available per 300 "paper ounce claims." Now is time to protect wealth and get out of the game of musical chairs, not jump back in and pay someone to manage your fractional owned, leveraged to the hills, and you don't hold it and don't own it in the event of emergency fake gold ETF.

@Know_Your_Money There's no way to know for sure. I don't believe they would allow a group of independent auditors to verify everything. As multiple banks have lost lawsuits related to gold and silver price manipulation, they have paid hundreds of millions of dollars in fines and even had employees confess in court and were charged. A short gold price trade maybe, but I wouldn't trust them to ever deliver in the event I needed something so important like gold. Perhaps I'm too pessimistic about the future, if they are liers we won't know until the madness starts.

@Know_Your_Money I don't believe they would ever allow an independent audit of their gold stock. Several banks like JPMORGAN and HSBC have been ordered to pay hundreds of millions in fines due to admitted market manipulation. I don't believe they would allow dillivery of gold in quantity if a party requested such, just a paper change in ownership.I have zero trust in those institutions. I have old logs of the entire SLV 1000oz silver bar inventories. Something like over 10,000 pages. Has bar refiner indetification, bar source, bar serial numbers, and current bar owners. Even with that info it's nearly impossible to take delivery of a 1000oz silver bar.

Great question. If I use IOO in a comparison with SPY, IOO has a slight edge over the last 3 and 5 years, but if we go back 10 & 20 years, SPY outperforms IOO. In the 20-year comparison, SPYs return over that time was 561% while IOOs return was 391%. In the end both are great options for long-term investing and if you have a preference for a more global asset approach and not just US-based companies, then IOO may be a better fit.

Economy does best under Democrat Presidents. Republican Presidents cause Recessions- Reagan/Bush, Dumbya, Trump. Clinton, Obama and Biden all inherited Republican Recessions that they all fixed to a booming economy only to have these Republican Presidents crash the economy into Recessions again.

You could definitely make that argument based on the data. OK, I don’t know what is being calculated in the Voya calculator. We both know that $7k earning 10% for 42 years will have equal value whether you put it in a tIRA or a Roth IRA. The vehicle doesn’t matter. It is true that you will owe tax on any withdrawals from the tIRA. But the calculator only has a 10.4% difference where the tax rate listed is 22%. I don’t get what they are calculating. From the Bogleheads wiki, “When the withdrawal marginal tax rate will be the same as the marginal tax rate saved by a traditional contribution), thanks to the commutative property of multiplication (i.e., A * B * C = A * C * B) the traditional and Roth results are equal.” Yes, you must include the fact that you do need to invest the tax savings you get the year you make the tIRA contribution. Another way it might be said is, equal dollars out of your pocket at contribution time is equal dollars in your pocket at withdrawal time, whether using a tIRA or a Roth IRA as long as the tax bracket is the same. An important point for the Roth for me, is when I die, my wife will, (because of filing single) jump to a higher tax bracket. I have been Roth Converting for about 5 years now, hoping to reduce my RMDs to below what our spending is, or at least keep us in the 12% bracket--- or whatever the new rate is changed to in 2025. Please respond with any additions or quibbles.

Thanks for the feedback! The calculator is taking in several factors including the average market return each year as well as the tax brackets you are in when contributing and when you retire. And of course the earnings from the investments will be the same, but the two big factors that contribute to a Roth IRA being a better option are tied to you either being in the same or similar tax bracket when earning and retiring and the other factor being the average market return over the life of the investments. As those investments grow larger the tax burden continues to grow with it in a traditional IRA while a Roth all of those investment earnings are tax free. Here's another calculator from JP Morgan that backs up Roth being better than traditional unless you're in a much lower tax bracket during retirement and/or the market doesn't perform well over all those years. www.chase.com/personal/investments/retirement/retirement-calculators/traditional-ira-calculator

@@Know_Your_Money Someone else described what I wanted to say better than I could. "No, if the tax rate is the same then a Roth does not come out ahead all else being equal. Let's take a hypothetical couple whose tax rate is 22%. If they invest $10k annually in a Roth for 30 years and the account earns 5% then at the end of 30 years the balance is $664,388.48 [=FV(5%,30,-10000)]. The $10k annually would be $12,820.51 pre-tax [(10000/(1-22%)] so with the Roth they are paying taxes on $12,820.51 of income or $2,820.51 in taxes for a net cash flow of $10,000 used to make the annual ROTH contributions. If they invest $12,820.51 annually in a traditional IRA for 30 years and the account earns 5% then at the end of 30 years the balance is $851,780.10 [=FV(5%,30,-10000/(1-22%))]. They avoid having to pay income tax on that $12,820.51 annually. The $851,780.10 would have an after-tax value of $664,388.47 [$851,780.10*(1-22%)] " Note: both have the same spendable dollars.
