So fischer was a low empathy malignant narcissists. He also had paranoid personality disorder. not to be confused with psychopathy or sociopathy he also for SURE had autism sort of the autism of elon musk. He saw people groups religions society's cultures the same way he saw chest pieces with ranking.. a Rook has more points then bishops bishops are worth more then pawns.. queens have the most.. etc.. He had the hierarchy that narcissists have i mean certain types of people were BETTER then others. and due to his paranoid personality disorder he didn't really have friends. He had a sort of genius that was in the top 1 percent but where he started to seriously go wrong was that although unmatched in his genius in chess say a ranking of 2800 that at the time was unmatched (probably today as well in some aspects) . He believed he was also a "2800" in other aspects of his life WHEN HE WASNT. he extreme anti Semitisms and world view of politics was not on some "2800" intellectual level but more on the PARANOID level. He was not the genius on politics that he thought he was. He was not a genius on friendship, he was not a genius on whether women or men were better at anything. In fact some of his world view were downright childish. Sometimes dangerous especially his views on jews. He was a genius but not in every aspect of life which is fine the problem become because HE THOUGHT he was. and in many ways that led to his sad demise.

Everything becomes dull and boring after a certain skill level is achieved. It's not unique to chess. Some things like physics remain fun because no human will ever reach that level where it becomes dull and boring.

Chess is more fun without all the theory and experience. Anything can happen in a game with two bad players trying their hardest, either can win. And they always learn and improve with each game, maybe in years of play they only learn and intuit what Magnus learned in a week of elite chess camp or whatever. But if they are having more fun then maybe that's the most pure form of chess, how it was intended to be enjoyed a thousand years ago. Then again I think Magnus is probably having more fun, he seems to enjoy winning a lot.

He’s right. If you want to be better at chess, you have to STUDY it. That means you use someone else’s strategy for your own. Where’s the creativity in that ? If I were to study to be better at a game, then I rather study coding. Chess is supposed to be fun. Studying isn’t lol.

The problem is not unique to chess but applies to any closed system. It eventually gets overanalyzed, and nothing new emerges. This even holds true for the universe as a whole. I hope we manage to reach the next dimension someday

I always felt this way about chess. It’s too deterministic. A bit of randomness is good for the mind and soul.

@breadandcircuses8127 I'd say it's because reality itself has some element of randomness, or at least pseudo randomness for variety. If something is truly deterministic it feels mechanical and soulless.

I finished with Chess, when i saw a club player who would not RESIGN? He wanted to seal up the moves and let someone ajudicate the game? He was down a lot of material, and he clearly was beat. It just was bad form. To deny his opponent a clean win. The Russians played games like that with Fischer. Worse games. Twisted mind games. outside the halls. No wonder he gave it up. Who needs to play such games. We find these games played all through society. Politics and chasing up petty officials. staying on a phone to get a simple response? a big game of frustration. That is Chess. FRUSTRATION. You repeat the same mistakes over and over. and hope to get one step quicker. Its an INSANE GAME.

When he compares himself to Morphy, he says maybe he has no more talent, he just knows more theory.
@bitbear1964

I agree. Playing chess well does not equal to talent. Someone who has been playing chess a year beats a noob does not make him talented. It’s more about his experience. I believe the true talented chess players are those who displays talent at young age, or someone who learns chess very fast, not people who built their chess skills over years. What Bobby want to express is that he is not one of those hardworking players who spends all their life studying chess. He is more intelligent and capable of other high-intelligence skills.

1 - 0:38 - magnus carlsen is a better chess player than wesley so, but wesley so is a more talented chess player than magnus carlsen! - doesn't want to delve into old chess and wants to go back to Fischer random. Very humble in answering the question as to whether or not e is the best player that ever was. But at the same time very instructive in changing the question from best player to most talented player 2 2:56 chess is a search for truth --> well the play itself is searching for truth, but... ...but studying and of course even changing the game is more like search for meaning. it's like like how mathematicians may agree on theorems given certain definitions but will disagree on definitions eg whether a 'square' is considered a 'rectangle' or if a 'manifold' has a 'dimension'. 3 9LX is better than chess for mental health i.e. chess openings are bad for mental health while chess middlegames & endgames are good for mental health. Quote 1 After playing Chess960, I realise how mentally unwell chess players become the more they play it. They know they will get the same ideal setup every game and they deny the fact that they will mess it up unless they memorise some other geek's ideas. In Chess960 there is nothing to deny. You know you are going to get a far from ideal start position and you know it is up to you to make the best of it and you know you will be playing moves nobody has tried before. Which is better for your mental health? - glider1001 Quote 2 'Chess960: The winner is the more agile mind. Chess: The winner is the biggest nerd.' - MingusMingusMingu 4 Well I don't find it like the interviewers have ego or something for not listening to Fischer. I find the interviewers have interest in Fischer. Too much interest that they don't really listen properly. Like they hear too much that they don't listen enough. My opinion: 0:38 doesn't want to delve into old chess and wants to go back to Fischer random. Very humble in answering the question as to whether or not e is the best player that ever was. But at the same time very instructive in changing the question from best player to most talented player 2:12 doesn't want to delve into old chess when asked about garry Kasparov. Very polite in refraining from criticising Kasparov. 5 5:34 did fischer GRADUALLY start to hate (standard) chess? or was it SUDDEN? i'm glad fischer acknowledged that this question was good. :) anyhoo wait i think i get it. fischer hated chess gradually, but it was a sudden realisation that he had begun to gradually hate it. like a child seeing h aunts or uncles after awhile, the child suddenly realises that e had been gradually growing
