I remember being told in the nineties by Marina owners to release all fish as They thought I was catching too many. I told them ..ok I will release them..but these fish are going to eat you out of house and home and they did. Main reason was they put Bass in the lake which ate all the lake trouts food source except rainbows and Kokanee.

Burbot is basically fresh water Cod. It should be commercialized! I've fished many waters heavy in Burbot but am always targeting lake trout. Its interesting to hear this fisherman describe what he looks for in good 'Burbot water' as what he describes is not a water column I'd typically target

The way to help the Kokanee situation substantially is get all the cows out of the riparian. Give the cows water guzzlers like the do for the Bighorn Sheep on Baretop Mt. They also need to range fence all corridors to riparian the cows could use. I hiked down to Carter Creek from the Cub Creek trail - which was pretty tough - and to my surprise at lease one huge angus cow is living down there - but - from the look of the damage to the spawning areas and riparian damage there are probably 2-3 living down there and cant figure their way back out. They probably got down from th Dowd mt side of the trail. I'm sure the cows are doing the same damage in the Sheep Creek drainage. Sheep Creek drainage is a major spawning creek / planting area - so if youre going to spend all the money on stocking you have to address the cow issue otherwise its a waste odf money at that point. Fence off ripairan corridors and give cows guzzlers in places like Dowd mountain and its a win-win

I'd say at least half of the problem of the decline of Kokanee can also be attributed to the unchecked free range cows destroying the raparian and viable potenial spawning creeks going into Flaming Gorge. They need to fence off all riparian areas so cows cant be tramping through spawning creeks and redds. I just got back from a trip to Flaming Gorge and hiked down to Carter Creek via the Cub Creek trail. I found one cow down there and probably another one or two i didnt see from the amount of damage and cow dung littering the half mile towords the lake from Cub Creek. I'm sure you'll find the same in Sheep Creek - a major spawning area for Kokanee - I used to work for California Dept of Fish & Game and part of my job was working with Coho and King Salmon identifying redds and possible reasons if redds were limited. Another part of my job was walking salmonid creeks and rivers for habitat typing for potential spawning viability. Carter creek was pretty bad - the stream substrate was fairly silted at a time it should not be - not to mention the just rotenoned the whole Carter creek drainage a couple years ago to replant with the nearly now endangered Colorado River Cutthroat - which incidentally will be spawning - or trying to - right about now. What a waste of taxpayer money to put all that money into a restoration project and not address the elephant in the china shop - get the cows out of the creeks - heres an easy win win situation - range fence off all possible corridors to spawning riparian areas and install water guzzlers for the cows in places like the top of Dowd mountain - away from streams. If the are installing water guzzlers for an actual native species - the bighorn sheep restoration project on Baretop mountain - then they can install guzzlers for a non native species like cows - my 2 cents

I get everyone’s frustration about the fee. But, if it is put back into the prevention program then it’s worth having it to save our waters. It’s also for DWR to have check stations and facilities that decontaminate boats and create facilities like the drive in water baths. This actually saves time and money for the boaters that do the proper cleaning and that frequently visit numerous bodies of water throughout the state.

One of the most important parts of a fishing video is to show what you’re using! Were they just silver or white spoons? Hard to tell. What depths were you fishing them at? Can you catch them in the summer like this? Loved all the catching!!
