I don't agree with the formula. I'd suggest having nipple covers instead. If you plan on breastfeeding then you have to stick with it. You can't skip a feed with formula. It will mess up your supply and make matters worse. You need to be confident. Your body was made for this. Its very rare that a mother wont make enough milk. Most of the time when baby is fussy after a feed its due to a mouth tie, allergy or over supply. You need a support team behind you, not someone saying just use the formula. Unless it is effecting your mental health, dont give up.

Yeah problem with that is other extreme … I had a holistic dr with low C-section rate and was a fan of natural birth to point I was in labor 3 days and white knuckling it cause he said epidural was bad then 3rd day I waved white flag my son was sunny side up I pushed 3 hrs burst most of the vessels in my eyes face neck and chest cause he was stuck in my pelvis but dr was so determined to give me a vaginal birth then my sons heart rate was plummeting which wound me up with C-section and half my body wasn’t numb from epidural so I screamed when I felt scalpel and then they cut an artery I was bleeding out so they knocked me out I missed the birth of my child and they forgot placenta in me so 2 weeks later I delivered it dr couldn’t believe it and I was wheeled back in surgery for d&c what a nightmare

Thank you for this. I don't plan on ever having kids but I am a chronically ill person who gets gaslit alot in medical settings. C sections are brutal. Watch a video of one intended for medical students where they actually show you the truth. They rip the layers of muscle open and yank baby out as fast as possible. Not just in emergency c sections either. There are medically sound reasons for this actually but it's very traumatic for the body. I assume a "gentle" c section tries to go a bit slower where possible. Or tbh it is probably just a marketing term to make moms less afraid of a c section.

I ended up asking for one because I felt I could NOT push anymore. It wasn't that bad. Compared to the contractions and the absolute terror of not being able to get my son out and the flat-out exhaustion, that was not a huge concern. My OB numbed me and it was a very small cut; 5 stitches I think they told me. I didn't tear beyond that. (I imagine I probably would not have gotten my son out without tearing, had I not been cut.) I was sore for a week or so, but...yeah. I don't think I even have a visible scar.

I have no actual data to back this im just a girl but it's my hill to die on that a lot of obs these days try to schedule births unnecessarily via inductions and c sections for their leisure. I'm sure a lot of moms prefer it this way too bc it is inconvenient to give birth in the middle of the night when you have nobody to call for child care for the other children they may have so on and so forth. I just don't understand where we took this crazy left turn and stop seeing birth as a natural beauty instead of an in inconvenient ticking time bomb of a medical procedure

Ok but can someone explain the episiotomy one? I've had 2 births where I got cut and one where I was allowed to tear naturally (=my first) and the natural tear became a bad 3rd degree that needed 2 restitching procedures in the first 6 weeks and delayed my recovery so very much. The cuts healed much more nicely and quickly (=births 2 and 3).

Exactly!! An episiotomy is much easier to sew up.
@RareInTheHistory
@RareInTheHistory 11 күн бұрын
Natural tears heal more readily and cleanly than episiotomy. The natural tears go with your natural skin weaknesses, whereas episiotomy just goes straight through everything regardless of those lines. Think of anytime there's already a tear in something like a piece of paper or fabric and then you put pressure on that area, it tears way more easily and farther than if you started with a full intact piece. Same principle with skin and tissues. It's also better to encourage the mom to push gently and steadily rather than as hard as she can all at once, because that allows her body time to stretch as well as to feel when it is tearing too much. Backing off on pushing as fast and hard as possible is so that her tissues can stretch naturally rather than forcing a tear. I'm willing to bet that with your first, for one thing your tissues had never stretched that way before, but also your doctor likely told you to push as hard as you can every time you had a contraction. Those combined factors made for a worse tear. With your subsequent pregnancies, your body had already stretched in those ways, so it didn't need to stretch as much to get the next babies out. In fact, if they had encouraged you to slow down on pushing and resting on some contractions, you probably wouldn't have torn at all on the subsequent ones.
@libbylou456
@libbylou456 11 күн бұрын
I’ll never understand it. I had an episiotomy and a grand total of 3 stitches with no issues healing. My sister on the other hand had a 4th degree tear, over 170 stitches and needed 2 total reconstructive surgeries over the following 18 months
@carolinaVF24
@carolinaVF24 11 күн бұрын
While I agree with what everyone else has said, I do have something to add. I am a midwife, so I know the importance and place of an episiotomy or tearing naturally as well. If we notice your tissues aren't stretching well, or you are pushing way too hard, and we see your perineum becoming very white and not stretching, an episiotomy is indicated. This to prevent 3rd and 4rd degree tears where the anus is also ruptured is some way. We can guide the tear so it doesn't go towards the anus, thus preventing possible incontinence problems later on in life. This isn't the first choice though. If we can get women to push nice and slowly, giving time to the perineum, that is first choice. Different positions also have more probability of tearing than others, so changing it up is important. Natural tears heal better than episiotomies, even though they are slightly more difficult to suture. From what I understand in your story, they should have probably seen that letting you tear naturally would cause a bigger problem, than an episiotomy. For your 2nd and 3rd birth it should have been reevaluted off course, and I hope they did. Just because you had a 3rd degree the first time doesn't mean it will happen again, and an episiotomy is not first choice right away. It very well might be that you wouldn't have teared those times.
@libbylou456
@libbylou456 11 күн бұрын
@@carolinaVF24 that’s the perfect approach in my opinion. Some people just do not have stretchy tissue and an episiotomy is a life saver. I just find it irritating when people insist natural tears are the only way to go
