Being able to understand Dutch has it's advantages in the Netherlands but hardly essential. I imagine even less so Afrikaans in South Africa. I feel that if I ever visit South Africa, I'll probably try getting by in afrikaans with my knowledge of Dutch a few times voor de grap, but quickly revert to English out of fear that my efforts are not so much endearing as trying their patience.

Beware! All those subjects are about young city people... Of course you can take as many cookies as you want. You hardly make an appointment to drop in at friends, family or neighbours.. you don't ring at the front door, you just go around back. Only the "career" persuing people are so busy they have to plan everything. And yes, the "tikkie" system is only used by the generations of overly using smartphones. And so on..... These examples do not represent Dutch values, just a small group of people, of whom most never been outside the "randstad bubble"...

They say "beschuit" (so an "h" between c and u.). It's a type of dried bread many Dutch people eat for breakfast. 😀

I'm german and when i read it i can understand much more, but when i have to listen to the language i can't follow dutch anymore and i can't understand it well. how they pronunce the words and how they build the sentences is very different to german. But many words if i read them i can understand them many words are more or less the same or at least they exist in german in one or another way

Seems majority Dutch are rather demeaning. Very bad reflection on the nation.... They forget that the Dutch who moved to Southern Africa were all pioneers.... Must say the video and comments give a rather negative cloud over the Dutch as a whole

We spreken in België 3 talen: Nederlands, Frans, Duits. Wat dus wél klopt, is "Vlaams dialect". :)
