ALBA TAKE NOTE - I've been casting around social media for people's views (SNP and non-SNP voters both) of why the SNP lost - initially I thought of a 'top ten', but it got bigger quickly, so here's what came up, they are roughly in order of importance to the electorate as far as I could see. Any duplication, errors etc - my fault. Arrogance and incompetence of the SNP government Failure to listen to the Electorate and not focussing on issues that matter to them Named Persons Bill, Gender Recognition, Trans Rights, Hate Crime, DRS not wanted Forever blaming someone else - Westminster, Conservatives, Labour and even Thatcher Obsession with power not Independence Always lying about the support for Independence - give us a plebiscite White, White, White Always bleating on about independence without addressing real needs Lack of honesty and transparency - lying, cheating and stealing - Matheson's iPad Divisiveness of Sturgeon inciting hatred Didn't talk about anything other than Indy in their speeches & literature. Uninspired leadership of last 2 FMs Failure to actually make any move towards Independence in 17 years Last 3 or 4 years considered the worst government Scotland has had. Incompetent, hubristic, arrogant and corrupt. Criminal incompetence of the SNP and the stink of corruption Where's the money, especially the £ 600,000 Sturgeon Attacks on Salmond SNP run as a Cabal Probably the most vociferous feedback was : The SNP needs to take it's head out of its ar$e & start working towards its declared goal whilst running Scotland in ways that will improve education, health, local services and internal / external investment and increase TRUST in their ability to run a country. Why would we ask for independence from the UK, only to hand it over to Brussels ? Thatcher, Westminster, Conservatives & Labour are NOT the problem - SNP arrogance and incompetence is.

So, Alex, perhaps this will give you an idea of direction you should take. Since the 4 July I've been casting around social media for people's views (SNP and non-SNP voters both) of why the SNP lost - initially I thought of a 'top ten', but it got bigger quickly, so here's what came up, they are roughly in order of importance to the electorate as far as I could see. Any duplication, errors etc - my fault. A bit of personal input - WHY not create a compelling, truthful and realistic vision of Independence, what it will take to get there and all the FINANCIAL impacts and have a plebiscite on the detail THEN if the electorate approve, so much easier to go for a referendum when you have the TRUE majority behind you - or are you /the SNP frightened of the truth ? Time to show real leadership ! The SNP are about to get the shake up they need to get real about Scotland's needs and Independence. They've failed us all. Wasted billions and wasted an opportunity to convince the doubters by improving the lot for us all. It's not difficult to build the required Council Housing, to restructure and improve the NHS by hiring the necessary staff and getting rid of the excess, to improve schooling and the conditions for teachers, to mend our roads, etc, etc, etc. The SNP have done nothing but put on a display of token gestures. They talk of eliminating child poverty, well the only way to do that is by ending parent poverty... which obviously means real jobs paying real wages. We now need a Party which will be run by ordinary people, not a select few, we need an actual Democratic Party.

TWENTY + reasons why Scots should vote for the SNP. 1) Best NHS by country mile with more GP's, Dr's, Nurses, Dentists (95% Scots registerd with NHS Dentist), Police officers per head than rUK. 2) Social housing 6 times higher than rUK and 50% higher than Labour. 3) Child Payments that are protecting 100k Scots kids from poverty not available in rUK. 4) On average lowest Council tax than rUK. 5) GDP 30% higher in Scot than rUKI 6) Deadly Measles infections seven times more likely in rUK thanks to higher immunisation in Scotland. 7) Best, most extensive, highest subsidised and cheapest Ferry service in the World operating consistantly at 98% efficiency. 8) Homeownership amongst the young far higher than rUK. 9) Fastest decarbonising than rUK. 10) Slabour PFI still costing councils £30bn. 11) Welsh Labour gov increasing student loans by £9250 whilst FREE for the vast majority of Scottish students. 12) Children <5 yo living near Nuclear plants (which Tories and Labour want) more likely to contract Leukemia. 13) Labour to spend less on NHS than the Tories with reduction in Consequentials for Scotland. 14) Road deaths in Scotland at lowest and continuing to fall. 15) Owner businesses three times higher in Scotland than rUK. 16) Child poverty far lower with child payment whilst it surges under both Tories and Labour. 17) Slabour failed to protect Scots from Blood contamination scandal. 18) More progressive taxation meaning higher investment in SNHS and cheapest for the vast maj of people. 19) Cancer and other health treatments much faster in Scotland. 20) Homelessness far lower in Scotland whilst it surges in rUK. 21) PLus one more Crime in Scotland 53% lower than the Thatcher years ALL ACHIEVED BY THE SNP DESPITE COVID, BREXIT AND THE FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS IMPOSED ON US BY WESTMINSTER

Rubbish. Your standards are obviously too low. Waiting lists are outrageous, with some being seen 9 months later. Most can't get a dentist. Social housing rents are still too high, and it should be Council Housing, not external companies/associations which just cost more to run. Plus the quality is low, both housing and services. Child payments do not go to the child but the parents, who spend it on what, and just how far does £25 go? The only way to end child poverty is to end parent poverty, and that means real jobs paying real wages. So what is the SNP doing to stimulate business growth? Council tax may be lower than rUK but still too high... just look at the poor services we're getting, rubbish everywhere, etc, while the Council Heads are collecting £100,000+ salaries for what? Don't boast about the Ferries. The SNP gave the contracts to the wrong company and what an absolute shambles, costing 3 times more too, and 2 times more costly to run. The contract should have gone to Stuart Ballantyne, who would have delivered. The tax system is totally unfair and has put too many into higher brackets than they ought to be. As for the NHS, it's not merely more money they need but proper management with less managers and unnecessary staff. The SNP has been a costly failure, focussed on vanity projects, jumping on every stupid bandwagon that rolls along. They are not serving Scotland nor Scots. How do the Freeports help us, especially when they block the way to membership of the EU?

You cannot propose to save Grangemouth as a refinery, and want to stop the sale of petrol/ diesel cars, so people buy electric vehicles. The decision to close the plant as a refinery and re-open as a distribution hub, is a decision taken by the company to meet the demands of governments wanting to ‘go green. As more people buy electric cars, petrol will not be needed in the same quantities. Losing jobs as a result of ‘going green’is something governments don’t talk about when promoting green issues and other ideas just to keep the voters happy. The steelworks in Wales is another example. For years people complained about the amount of energy the blast furnaces used. Now that the company is wanting to close them, and replace them with more efficient electric arc furnaces with the loss of hundreds of jobs, people are complaining about their actions. Cannot have it both ways, and there are more job losses to come as more and more companies, factories, shops etc are forced to cut emmissions by a certain date. Those coming away with ‘green ideas’ in their manifestos, don’t talk about the job losses that will happen as a result.

Will Alba learn from the disaster that has been the SNP ? The SNP have had an obsession with *POWER not INDEPENDENCE* . Only the delusional brain dead 🐑🐑🐑 and Cult 🤡🤡🤡 cannot see that Independence the SNP way is toast for the simple fact it CANNOT be afforded. In the past 17 years there has been a total lack of preparation and no coherent 'pathway to Independence' articulated to the electorate, only a number of very expensive, high-level, glossy brochures full of erroneous word soup, selective values, unsubstantiated numbers - all of which are totally lacking credibility when independently researched. There needs to be a compelling, truthful and realistic vision of Independence of what Scotland can be, how to get there and it *MUST* be agreed by the electorate not *DICTATED* to them. Independence now would make Scotland a 4th world country with rampant inflation, a crash in housing and land prices, total skills drain, loss of all inwards investment, leaving it open to 'carpetbagger' chancers from other countries to 'cherry pick' any remaining prime assets now that wind power, oil, whisky and many large estates are now owned by *foreign* entities * that would NOT BE A GOOD INDEPENDENCE* .

Great presentation from Alex. From where I am sitting the S.N.P. looks like it is on its knees and is almost as clueless about what to do moving forward as, dare I say it the RED and BLUE Tories. Under Alex's stwerardship the S.N.P. grew from strength to strength and were getting things done but since he resigned the S.N.P. has, in my view as a former S.N.P. member, gone backwards and independence has almost certainly been put on the slow burner and is no longer seen as a "must have" policy but more of a "would be nice to have at some indeterminate time in the future" policy. In fact it looks to me like the S.N.P. are so far away from getting fully onboard with Scottish independence these days that they only seem to talk about it at any length during elections, it's almost like they are using the call for Scottish independence as a way to garner votes because they know there is not much else they have in their locker that can attract independence voters. The S.N.P. needs a damned good kick up the backside to get things back on track and ALBA is the instrument to do this. ALBA clearly have the ideas, they clearly have the know how, they are clear about what has gone wrong and is going wrong both within Scotland and at Westminster. For the sake of everyone who is independence minded we need ALBA representatives both at Holyrood and at Westminster, the more the merrier in my view. Good luck to Al;ex and all the ALBA candidates standing in Thursday's election.

I never considered voting for the SNP after all the nonsense over the last few years but I was encourage when I heard some Alba members speeches but seeing the policies , particularly on the EU has put me off after living on Ireland and seeing the country destroyed by treacherous politicians that are being ruled by the EU and because of that, Irish people have became second class citizens; I fear this would happen in Scotland. Seeing so much interest in those policies for countries that have got nothing to do with Scotland makes me think, even though I don't see it mentioned in there, that the party would go along with things like WHO treaties and be controlled by them as well as the EU if we joined. I want a country that's free from outside interference
@louisehogg8472
@louisehogg8472 21 күн бұрын
I think ALBA's policy is to join EFTA -the free trade agreement. That's different from joining the EU. And realistically, a country of 5 million people with vast natural resources is never going to be completely free of outside interference of some sort. The trick is to balance these outside interests and maintain a decent level of control.
