No fkin way, I thought the bread in a can was a joke...but I was wrong...

as someone whose first playthtough was playing on admiral difficulty with the hardcore mode active. It was though (as hell) but it was well worth it (going rambo style might be a good strat but in most scenarios since the enemies can flank you from behind i use some clasic hit and cover tactic). I agree that the mall soundtrack was the best. Kinda felt like Jhon Wick tearing through the mall killing everything that moves. Yes the plant cloning facility feel like a "deviation" of the game's essence, but i kinda enjoyed it (was one of the easiest part of the map though, the melee enemies makes it very easy for the smg's taser melee attack to stun pretty much the whole group).

Fun Fact: Aliens and Red Dwarf have a link - actor Mac McDonald is in both (although only in the Aliens Special Edition) as the Hadley's Hope colony overseer, Simpson, and Red Dwarf as Captain Hollister.

We seem to be around the same age and I remember playing this when it came out because my parents didn't give a shit about the media I consumed, and I remember being genuinely shocked by the G.H.O.U.L. system. To this day it stands out as one of the most viscerally gory games I've ever played, shitty Q2 textures and effects notwithstanding.

I will buy this on pay day! Thanks for showing this, I didnt even know about it. Its exactly what Ive been craving for a long time. I bought 'Hard Reset Redux' last year which soothed the itch a little, but lacked something. Good game that imo.

SELACO does something really interesting with range - all the enemies have different ideal engagement ranges, and those ranges change with your equipped weapon. Also, at point-blank range, you can easily deal with a single enemy but even a two-man group is practically guaranteed to damage you if you attack. You only have a few weapons that are good at long ranges, and ammo is relatively scarce. That means that the core gameplay is largely about trying to get yourself into a good firing position and out of the enemy's firing positions - while also hunting for any lone stragglers for easy melee or shotgun kills. There's no single strategy that reliably works, and it's all hugely dependent on the level layouts. Basically, SELACO nails "the dance" in a way that I don't think even FEAR, Control, or the modern Doom games managed. It's astonishing that they managed to pull this off.

If there's a Video Game Shotgun Hall of Fame, Flak Cannon is placed there at the most honorable spot right next to the sawn-off from Blood, Spread Gun from Contra and a shotgun from Worms series. SSG, of course, is immortalized with a golden statue and regular Doom shotgun is right at the foyer with a plaque that reads "Our Founding Father".

Funny story about the shotgun. In DOOM 3 VR for the PSVR, the shotgun is God-tier and Armature, the devs responsible made the spread a lot tighter, making mid range combat viable. Not to mention, they've upped the damage for it as well. Downside, the Super Shotgun was mega-nerfed and became the new vanilla DOOM 3 Shotgun. Unless you are pointblank, the spread in the PSVR version for the Super Shotgun is 2 - 3x wider than the regular vanilla shotgun, which is bonkers. Worse yet, even if you're point blank, you can still miss majority or all Super Shotgun pellets even at close range. It's that bad!

I got curious about the burger flipper game. Can you make the mini-game do so many calculations that it completely tanks the frame rate? YES, yes you absolutely can and I'm getting 2FPS now! This is not the devs fault. This is my fault. I had an idea it was possible because of all the possible calculations it would be running simultaneously, while running a video game. It took focusing on burger flipper for 2 or 3 days and now I'm probably soft-locked on my most recent save. Oddly enough, I didn't see any symptoms hardly until it was just completely fucked.
